Games took place at John Burroughs High School in Burbank, California. I was able to catch most of the teams in action, and these are the players who caught my attention.
Amado Coleman (Paraclete- 2021) Coleman motor is always high. He never stops hustling on both sides of the court. Coleman is a good rebounder and gets the fast break started for his team. He also showed good vision in the half court when catching the ball around the free throw area. If Coleman can work on his footwork, it can take his game to another level.
Kyle Brown (La Canada- 2020) If anyone is looking for a pure shooter then look no further than Kyle Brown. Kyle gets excellent elevation on his jumper while adding a nice follow through. Kyle moves really without the ball in legendary coach Tom Hofman offense. Kyle was able to hit an array of three-point jumpers from all over the floor, but also kept it balanced with some pull-up jumpers in the key.
Flavio Torres (Sun Valley Magnet – 2020) Flavio goes to high that is relatively not well known. Although, he and his team did make some noise in the Division 5 Los Angeles city section playoffs last season. Flavio showed he could play with anybody at the War On the Floor tournament. He displayed quickness with the ball, combining that with crossover dribbles and hesitation dribbles. Flavio showed he could get to the rim and finish on the break. Flavio also displayed good court vision in transition.
Brandon Whitney (Alemany- 2020) Whitney in my estimation was the readiest Division 1 prospect at this event. When Whitney wants to get somewhere on the court, he makes sure to get there. He has a good pull-up jumper and combines that with good right hand floater in the lane. Whitney does a great job of using his body to create contact when driving to the bucket. Whitney was a true leader on the court and getting his team to buckle down on defense.
Caden Starr (Santa Clarita Chrisitian- 2020) Caden likes to control the game at his pace. He is never too up or too down. He is a very smooth and methodical scorer. Caden does a great job of using his size to score over smaller guards. Caden knows what he’s capable of doing on the basketball court and does not try to do too much. He displays high IQ on the court by making the extra pass or putting his teammates in the position to succeed.
Tyler Powell (Ribet Academy- 2021) Tyler is a man among boys. Tyler does a great job of using his strength to finish inside. He likes to bang and grab rebounds on both sides of the floor. Tyler also showed he is a very versatile player when hitting three outside shots. Tyler demonstrated the ability to play from a triple threat position on the wing. Powell is a real hybrid player who can play on the inside and outside.
Jordan Shelly (Providence- 2020) Shelly is an admirable basketball player who can do a lot on the basketball court from the guard position. Shelly showed the ability to hit deep 3’s but also showed great athleticism when getting to the rim. Shelly also handles the point guard duties for his team in which he showed the ability to drive and kick. A lot of successful teams need a guy like Shelly who they can trust on the basketball court. He is very capable of handling multiple responsibilities on the court.
