Teams have displayed mid-season chemistry and multiple sets. Some teams were more conditioned and disciplined than others. As coaches start to figure out who is who before summer is over so that they can get a better idea of what they have.
New School
Mountain Ridge
when new schools form it’s always interesting to see what players decide to leave or stay. Example: When Ridgeline open their doors almost all of their key contributors left to this new school which resulted in a State Championship.
Green Canyon has also had success as well.
Mountain Ridge didn’t get any well known contributors leave Herriman. We saw some growing pains out there this weekend but they’re well coached and and play hard.
Surprising Team
Payson: This Team has a combination of size, shooting and athletic ability. They upset Juan Diego who looked great. They also took down Wasatch which was the most impressive shooting team in the camp.
New Look Team
Corner Canyon has a new look lineup due to graduating a lot of players. The team is lead by Trace Ross who has a good handle and a nice mid-range game as well as a quality outside shot. Their new big Josh Chandler is a monster on the boards and around the basket.
Tough Teams to Beat
it’s early and a lot of things can happen but here are a few teams that we saw that will be tough teams to beat.
Herriman: This Team has it all. They have tough, hard nose guards that play in both ends. LeGrand Burgess and Kase Peterson are key players in what they’re trying to do. They should have a successful up coming year.
Skyridge: One of the teams that looked like it was in mid-season form. Trevino Snoody and Duncan Ried are a dangerous combo.
Layton: Ethan Potter looks great this year as he will be the man inside and out. He shoots the ball well and attacks the rim with aggression. His ability to knock down free-throws is bad news for teams as he will rack up major points. Layton has length and is well coached.
Juan Diego: Looked good early but at times they were out of sync. With the amount of underclassmen that play this will be expected but they have some athletes, speed and they play defense. Kemari Bailey was great early with some high flying dunks and Gabe Soto shot the ball well.
Bountiful: Robert “Boi Boi” Whaley is a big kid. He made some other big players look small. The Braves have a fleet of guards that have size that check in and out of the game and the team doesn’t lose a beat. They adjust well and they have high team IQ.
