Of course there were some names of players that we saw before and it was interesting to see the matchups of ranked players against players who were looking to play their way in.
High Point Central 2020 Forward Kuluel Mading: The highest level prospect in the building had to be this young man, and it didn’t take much time to see why we feel this way. First of all he’s a 6’10 that can do a bit of everything, he blocks shots at an extremely high rate, as well as rebounding by using height and wingspan. The most impressive attribute about his defense is his ability to be able to guard multiple positions, there was quite a few occasions where we saw him switch on a guard and defend a smaller player just as well. Offensively he showed a bit of everything in his game, the ability to shoot the deep ball, breaking down defenders off the dribble and finishing above the rim, MM/HM prospect in our minds without a doubt.
Western Alamance 2021 Guard Shane Peterson: The moment he stepped on the floor for the first game, he let it be known through his play that he wanted to be known as one of the better shooters in the building. Three triples in a row to start the game and finishing with five out of six in this game alone, as well as a game winning midrange jumper in the 2nd game were all some of the highlights of his day. Shooting is definitely what we feels he does best but he also showed some ability to make plays off the dribble.
East Forsyth HS 2021 Forward/Center Zyun Reeves: We really like what he has the chance to be at his size and skillset, he’s another player that got better as the day went on. Legit 6’7 with some weight on him, he’s not a person that is going to get pushed around very easily, he battled inside throughout the day and came up with his fair share of rebounds and a ton of blocks! On the offensive end of the floor he was very impressive with his back to the basket as well as facing up which gave him the chance to show some impressive three point shooting range.
Forsyth Country Day School 2023 Guard Will Gray: Has a chance to be a very special player before it’s all said and done. First and foremost as one of the younger players in the building, we were impressed with how mature and poised he seemed to be on the court. He didn’t allow himself to be rushed into plays, but got to his spots using his ball handling and speed at a pretty efficient rate, which opened up the opportunity to showcase his three point shooting skills as well. One of the more impressive things we liked about him was his work ethic, he doesn’t play AAU basketball but instead is just working on his game and getting better. Even after the camp was completed, we saw him putting up shots, which is something that you don’t see from too many youngsters.
Lexington Senior High 2020 Forward Alex Holt: 6’8 big with a soft touch around the rim, he was constantly in the paint making plays on both ends of the floor and showing he is worthy of the D1 interest he has. One play in particular that impressed us was a put back dunk at the end of a game over a 6’6 defender, it showed that he has what we would call ‘’sneaky bounce’’ as it seemed like he got above the rim in a blink of an eye. Body wise he still will need to tone up a bit which we feel will only help his recruitment but overall we like what he can be.
RJ Reynolds HS 2021 Guard Tyreik Leach: His better performances came in the final two games of the day that he played in, as he showed that he was one of the top guards in the building. His efficiency from three point land and impressive ball handling skills were on display without a doubt, we couldn’t tell you how many times we saw him break down his man and score with a tough bucket on the day. His head is always up and he did a nice job of finding the balance of his own offense as well as making plays for others on the court.
