Julian Mackey/G/Lakota West (’22) – A week after an eye-opening performance at the Deer Park Shootout, Mr. Mackey put together a jaw dropping performance Saturday against coincidentally Deer Park. Julian showed a complete offensive repertoire knocking down three-balls and scoring off the bounce with mid-range pull-ups and finishing at the rim. What impressed me the most is how he uses his body along with his crafty handle to get defenders off balance to setup his mid-range game.
Paul McMillan IV/G/Woodward (PHO #4, C/O ‘22) – What started out as a sluggish start turned into a typical P-Mac type of the day for highly ranked sophomore. Early on Paul was very careless with the pill, forcing passes into traffic and leaving his feet to make passes with really nowhere to go. But after a quick hook McMillan looked more like his old self getting downhill and finishing with an array of floaters and lay-ups in the lane.
Kanye Moreland/G/Woodward (’23) – While there were plenty of moments were Moreland looked like a freshman, particularly on the defensive end, there were also plenty of minutes were you could see the bright future ahead of this young man. Moreland is about as quick as the come off the bounce and is fearless in attacking the paint and taking contact at the rim. Look for Kayne to be an important part of the Bulldogs roster this season.
Kollin Tolbert/PG/Mt. Healthy (PHO #48, C/O ’22) – As cool as the other side of the pillow, Tolbert was outstanding on Saturday afternoon. He does a good job of changing speeds, at times lolling defenders to sleep with a slow dribble before bursting past for floaters in the lane and pull-up jumpers. But just as impressive for the Owls sophomore is how he competed on the defensive end and how he took care of the basketball, valuing each possession.
