It’s one of the biggest gatherings in the country of some of the absolute best high school basketball players in the nation. The camp has several notable NBA players as alumni and many who have gone on to earn college scholarships.
The camp took place from Friday May 31 to Sunday June 2. I was able to attend the camp on Saturday June 1. While there was plenty of talent across all high school age groups, I focused a bit on the younger players from the 2022 and even 2023 class. Here’s a look at the top standouts that I saw from those age groups.
1. Mikey Williams – San Ysidro 2023
This young guard has yet to play in an official high school game, but he’s already putting his name on the map. He’s a crafty scorer who has an arsenal of offensive moves. On the break, he can either pull up for a jumper or take the ball all the way to the rim. He can shoot from distance and he can move without the ball and spot up. He’s got some nice spin moves and a good floater when he’s near the basket.
2. Jorge Ochoa – Orange Lutheran 2022
A versatile forward who just completed his freshman season, there’s a lot he can do on the court. He runs the floor very well and is one of the first to get out on the break. He moves well without the ball and puts himself in position for his teammates to find him for easy looks. He can handle the ball as well though. He’s able to initiate the break and sometimes get all the way to the rim. He finishes well at the rim and can step outside and shoot the perimeter jumper. He’s also very active on the glass and is a tough defensive player.
3. Skyy Clark – Heritage Christian 2022
An explosive scorer, he’s steadily making a name for himself as one of the nation’s top point guards in his class. He’s a handful when he’s attacking the rim. He can get to the basket with ease and he’s a very athletic finisher. He’s got a nice jumper as well. His overall floor game is solid, he knows how to be a facilitator and get his teammates open looks with some crafty passes.
4. Christian Moore – Brentwood 2022
A young forward that is ripe with potential. He looks comfortable with the ball in his hands and making plays. He’s got good range too on his jumper. He’s also comfortable with his back to the basket and playing in the post where he can finish at the rim. But perhaps his biggest qualities are his defensive ability and presence on the glass. He’s very active around the rim defensively and can develop into a very capable rim protector.
5. Brandon Huntley-Hatfield – IMG Academy 2022
A developing young forward who is very talented. He’s just barely scratching the surface of the versatile forward he can become. He’s got great length and is extremely mobile for a big man. When he gets near the rim, he’s looking to finish the play with authority. He can handle the ball and initiate the offense. He’s also a good three-point shooter. He’s also a very capable passer for a big man. He’s a good rebounder and he has the tools to develop into an elite rim protector and interior defender.
