Tayvon Barber @PrepHoopsTN Summer Combine Recapture
Tayvon Barber (Walker Valley) attended the PrepHoopsTN Summer Combine, infusing his slick handle and left-handed jumper into the mix. Barber measured 5-foot-6 in shoes with a handspan emblematic of an average male. Considering Barber will be growing in the near future that is an encouraging number.

College Projection: Too soon to tell.
Tayvon Barber ranked in the top 30 players of the event. His redeeming skills were handle and team concepts.
Barber effectively completed the more challenging dribbling drills with a little flair. He kept the ball close to his body and dropped in an effortless behind-the-back dribble to change direction. Barber is a left-handed shooter with promise. He needs to improve his shooting transition off the dribble. In this smaller sample size, Barber’s shot fell more often in catch-and-shoot situations. He projects as a lead guard and finishing off the more challenging jumpers consistently will expand his role with any team.
One of the youngest players in the building, Tayvon Barber put up a nice 3/4 court sprint time. His 3.57 ranked just below the mean in a field of mostly 2021 and 2022 prospects. His footwork is good and it opens up the possibilities for slashing.
Barber needs to improve his movement off the ball. He doesn’t hunt the basketball greedily, but he does stand still too often when the basketball is not coming towards him. Movement off the ball challenges the defense to think and react to more scoring options. Considering his shooting ability and potential this should be a high priority.
