Joseph Summers Jam on it Carson H.S Reno (NV) 2021 – Hard not to love watching this kid play. He convinced me this weekend that he is a scholarship athlete. If he grows to be 6’ ft then some program has a diamond. His hesitation game is on point, and he uses slight head fakes to sell it. He even hit someone with the Smitty for a layup. Pure point guard that excels at breaking people down and delivering on time and on target passes, and he shoots it just well enough to force the defense to honor his shot. Despite facing traps and double teams all weekend he put up over 20ppg. He will never be the biggest or faster guy on the court, however he knows how to play. He will be playing for Carson High School in Reno this fall.
Dontrell Johnson LV Timberwolves H.S Undecided 2022 – Someone to watch for in the class of 2022 is Dontrell Johnson. Johnson was the best player I saw all weekend. The 6’2 slasher can score in a variety of ways. He was clearly the best player on the floor whenever he stepped on it. He was able to get to the rim with ease, and relentlessly pursued offensive rebounds. If he gets a consistent jumper, you’re looking at a D1 player. I spoke to him briefly and he is deciding between Liberty, Bonanza, and Spring Valley, to play at next year.
Jason Sims Team Rougue Faith Lutheran H.S Las Vegas (NV) 2021 – Honestly I could have picked anyone from the Gold Division Champs, but Sims was the engine. Uses both hands well, off the bounce and when finishing. He gets paint touches! No one was able to keep him out of the lane all weekend, and it was hard to recognize if he was more comfortable going to his left or his right. He took advantage of playing in his High School system and showed off a Quarterback command of the offense. He will be attending Faith Lutheran in the fall.
Nicholas Attanasio Team Rougue Faith Lutheran H.S Las Vegas (NV) 2021–Anytime the champs needed a bucket Attanasio delivered. A knock down shooter, took advantage of the system to get open shot after open shot. Just when you think he’s going to shoot another one, he gives a pump fake and goes by for a layup.
Jeremiah Beckwood – Nevada Ballers JV Durango H.S Las Vegas (NV) 2020 – Beckwood is a physical specimen. No one had an answer for him down low, he really only got himself in trouble when trying to do too much on the perimeter. Loves to go and finish right. Get him in post ups and downhill situations and you have a monster. This fall, Beckwood will play for what is shaping up to be a loaded Durango squad.
