At first glance, what was supposed to serve as a warm up to the July season, actually turned out to be a solid event with several promising prospects. Here are some of the Standouts from Day 1:
Bryant Largardy LV Thunder 2022 – The 6’6 Largardy is a long, rangy, super skilled prospect. He has the ability to score inside and put the ball on the floor and make a play for himself or his teammates. For a young player of his size, he is extremely comfortable off the dribble, and effortlessly starts and finishes fastbreaks. While he still possess a slight frame, he showed toughness, durability and a competitive edge, while playing in 3 consecutive games for both the 15U and 17U version of the Thunder.
Jake Bevaqua Chosen Few 2023 – I have watched Bevaqua play a few times this year. The one thing that jumps out at you is his toughness. The 5’9 PG doesn’t back down from anyone. For a player of his age, his skill set and IQ is amazing. While not elite at any one skill, it’s hard to pinpoint anything he doesn’t do well. He has a tight handle, is a dangerous shooter, and delivered on time and on target passes to teammates. While I haven’t seen every incoming freshmen in the State, to date he is clearly one of the best.
Tommie Lindsey LV Thunder 2019 –Tommie Lindsey does not look like any basketball player I have ever seen. The skinny, glasses wearing Lindsey looks like he could be the captain of the debate team, however what he is, is an elite run and jump athlete with several special gifts. He showed the ability to slash, rebound and handle at a Scholarship level. If his jumper is falling he becomes a serious problem. Lindsey is playing as an unsigned senior, but has fielded offers from Queens College, Kings College and UC San Diego.
Dejonte Allen LV Thunder 2019 – I tried as hard as I could to keep the 6”2 Allen off the list. He didn’t score a lot, he is a good not great athlete, didn’t shoot it exceptionally well and certainly isn’t the first guy you would select in a pick-up game. However after watching him play all day, I realized any successful team better have a player like him on it. He battled larger players down low, rebounded like a champion and constantly gave up his body for the betterment of the team. He is currently playing as an unsigned senior.
Kaden Koch Desert Valley Prep 2020 – The 6’4 285 pound Koch showed off an elaborate skill set. He has dancer’s feet, good hands and a nice shooters touch. His go to move is a spin move off the dribble, which because of his body type allows him to create maximum space. He will be playing at the newly created Desert Valley Prep next season.
