As summer ball is now in full swing, Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at some of the state’s top players on the rise in a variety of positions.
Below are some of the state’s players to keep your eyes on in the 2020 class
Jayce Silmon, 5’10, G, 2020, Wichita East
A nice guard who brings a great work ethic and a lot of energy to the floor. He can handle the ball well and play as a point guard as he is a good passer and looks to push the tempo whenever he catches the ball or grabs a rebound or forces a turnover. He can shoot and gets on the board and plays hard.
Sam Pyle, 6’4, G/F, 2020, McPherson
Pyle has good size at 6’4 and makes smart plays as a rebounder on both ends. He plays a variety of positions and can defend inside some and handle himself on the perimeter as well. He can clean up plays at times, shoot open shots and keeps his head up on defense.
Matt Hromek, 6’0, G, 2020, Circle
A nice 3-point shooter who can hug the three-point line and even score from a few feet behind it. When he’s feeling it, he can really put up some points in a hurry. He stays wide and has a good sense of spacing and is good at moving away from the ball and shooting immediately after the catch. A guy who can bail you out when you need a bucket and the ball swings to him.
Tyler Steuber, 5’9, G, 2020, Maize
A shorter guard who looks to play off the ball and shoot whenever he has an open look. Steuber is a good guard who can play with the ball in his hands or without it. He uses the glass well
Hayes Schmid, 5’10, G, 2020, McPherson
Schmid is another player for McPherson who is gritty and works hard on the defensive end. He’s a good rebounder and looks to contest shots and forced turnovers on the perimeter. He can bring the ball up the floor and is good at staying away from areas of the floor where opposing teams look to trap and disrupt the offense.
