As summer ball is now in full swing, Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at some of the state’s top players on the rise in a variety of positions.
Below are some of the state’s players to keep your eyes on in the 2021 class
Ja’Ron Byrd, 6’4, F, 2021, Shawnee Mission North
A multiple sports stand out who has an excellent paint presence on both ends of the floor. He has a physical presence that catches opponents off-guard and a strong build and long arms which helped him blocked shots on one end and force his way to the basket on the other. A skilled player who has great leadership qualities and can get buckets when he needs to.
Brandon Eckles, 6’5, F, 2021, Olathe South
Eckles bring some bounce and skill to the floor. He has an eye for the offensive side and can operate inside and out well for his height. He runs hard and has solid athleticism and can finish plays through the air. also a strong defensive presence who is great at protecting the basket and can block shots and force turnovers.
Alex Littlejohn, 6’3, F, 2021, Bishop Carroll
A talented score who plays much better than you would expect a player his size. He scores quickly and often. He has great footwork in the paint and has an array of fakes and post moves that give him open looks inside. Little John has a soft-touch to his shot and is also strong on the defensive end as a hard-nosed defender who plays physical.
Parker Hill, 6’3, F, 2021, Blue Valley
Hill has good size and athleticism and can defend positions from guard to forward. He is a good pastor and has good handles and a high basketball IQ. He can use his size to move inside and score over taller players and is a solid outside shooter as well. An improved player to keep your eyes on.
AJ Johnson, 6’3, F, 2021, Salina South
a talented and strong wing player who shows a versatile skill set and a great deal of bounce. He has solid hops and is an improved transition player who can fight through contact and get to the basket and score. He’s able to put his head down and score in the paint and can bring it out and hit a jump shot behind the 3-point line and a few feet inside.
