The state of Kansas has several up-and-coming forwards from long, athletic big men who are poised for a breakout campaign like Blue Valley’s Jacob Owens to skilled wings, like Lawrence’s Mayson Quartlebaum.
Here, we take a look at several players who should be on college programs radar’s this summer in the 2020 class.
Mayson Quartlebaum, 6’3, F, 2020, Lawrence
An undersized forward who plays a large role on the block. He plays beyond his listed height and has a big body frame and a smart inside-out game that can translate two buckets in side and three pointers on the perimeter. He has a soft touch to his game and it’s difficult for opponents to get a hand on his left handed shot.
Jacob Owens, 6’9, F, 2020, Blue Valley
A player with elite size link and solid athleticism. He runs the floor well and is good at blocking shots near the basket. His long arms make him solid rebounder and he is constantly improving at fighting for position and bring down the ball in awkward situations. He also score around the basket and is comfortable using the glass.
King Sutton, 6’4, F, 2020, Topeka
Sutton brings solid athleticism above the rim on both ends of the floor. He has great hops and is really good at getting position and blocking shots. He brings a strong work ethic to the floor and he can use his speed and handles to get around opponents and score inside. Sutton can operate on the low and high post alike and is improving his jump shot.
Zach Davidson, 6’7, PF/C, 2020, Augusta
Davidson brings great height to the floor and a lot of strength to the power forward and center position. He works hard on the defensive end and is good at forcing turnovers and making opponents uncomfortable with the ball. he runs the floor well in transition and is an offensive threat near the basket and on the block.
Isaiah Gavin, 6’5, G/F, St. Thomas Aquinas
Also a football standout who is making waves at Aquinas, Gavin is a long and rangy wing player with great athleticism and a good eye for the floor. He is a smooth passer and is very good at spotting defensive schemes and adapting is game accordingly. He defends the floor well on the perimeter and is comfortable moving inside and defending taller post players. He can bring physicality to the game and has a nice combination of skill and hustle.
