Sam Thompson 6’9″ Francis Howell (’21): The talented young big continues to elevate his game as he was a force at both ends of the court. He is very unselfish as he is a willing and excellent passer out of double teams. When he touches it, he can score in the post or wheel and deal from the high post and get to the basket. He also displayed his shooting touch from the perimeter as he knocked down a number of 3-pointers. He was also a factor on defense with his size and shot blocking.
Devion Harris 6’7″ Parkway Central (’20): Once a young power forward has gradually developed into a skilled combo forward with a more diversified game. His post moves are solid and he can finish well around the basket, plus he’s is a very good shot blocker. The biggest part of his game is the development of his perimeter skills. He is comfortable taking an opposing big to the basket off the dribble and his 3-point shooting has improved as well.
Maricus Grant 6’2″ Battle (’20): The strong point guard had stretches where he could dominant defensively, either with his ball pressure, or when he would go for a steal that would lead to a fast break to start a run for his team. His offensive game is vastly improved, especially his perimeter shooting, but he likes to keep it under control and pick his spots as he distributes to his talented teammates. When he wants to get downhill, he is tough to stop.
Lyndell Hunt 6’4″ Confluence Prep Academy (’20): The bouncy combo forward was easily the most explosive player at the Shootout. He had several crowd-pleasing dunks and very athletic plays around the rim, including alley-oops and transition plays. He was good in the half court as he put the ball on the floor and attacked the basket with authority while knocking down mid-range jumpers to keep defenders honest.
K.J. Lee 6’5″ Fort Zumwalt North (’21): A talented shooting guard who is blossoming into a nice prospect as he was excellent over the weekend. He was one of the top perimeter shooters during the weekend. His range is deep and his touch is feathery. He has also added the element of putting the ball on the floor and making plays off the dribble. Despite his thin frame, he played through contact and dropped some pretty dimes off his dribble penetration. His stock is definitely on the rise.
Sofara Rasas 6’4″ St. Mary’s (’20): A slashing wing player who becomes the main man at St. Mary’s after the graduation of star point guard Yuri Collins. Rasas has the size and versatility to be a fine all-purpose player. He was at his best when he attack the basket and scored from many different angles. He was also a dangerous weapon in the transition game. He could also take over at point guard when needed to take advantage of his matchup.
Brandon Mitchell-Day 6’5″ MICDS (’22): This young talent was one of the most versatile players in the event as he was effective in just about everything. In addition to handling the team’s point guard duties, he was one of their top scorers and definitely the team leader in rebounds, assists, steals and blocked shots. He has a high basketball IQ and he plays with a lot of poise.
