Brock Wakefield 6’3″ Gateway: The slender wing player from South Iron enjoyed a big tournament in leading his Gateway team to the 16U championship. He is an impressive 3-point shooter with long-distance range, but he can also get buckets from all three levels. He has a number of escape moves to create jumpers for himself and he’s gotten stronger since the high school season ended, which helps him finish in the lane against contact. He averaged nearly 20 points a game for the weekend.
Isaiah Williams 6’2″ Knights Basketball Academy: A smooth lefty from Lutheran North who as a versatile skill set that fits in well with a team full of capable 3-point shooters. Williams can also knock down a 3-pointer himself, but he is even better when he’s beating defenders off the dribble while going in either direction. He can score at the rim or knock down floaters and high-arching short jumpers while staying under control.
Nyjahl Vaughn 5’11” St. Louis Blazers: A physical young shooting guard from Cardinal Ritter who enjoyed a very productive weekend in helping his team to the 16U championship game. He used his physical strength to attack the basket and get buckets on the drive against bigger defensive players. I also liked how he mixed in some perimeter shooting as well. He is a tough defender who put in a lot of effort at that end of the court.
Aahmod Scarbrough 6’2″ Gateway: A strong wing player from Hazelwood Central who combines toughness, athleticism and an improving skill set on the perimeter. He is a willing and aggressive rebounder who loves to attack the basket on offense and get after opposing offensive players on defense. He loves to slash to the basket in the half court and get out in transition. His is shooting the 3-pointer with more confidence.
Jack Pronger 6’6″ Knights Basketball Academy: A tall and lanky wing player from MICDS who displayed some of the best shooting range during the weekend. He can cut it loose from more than 25 feet and it’s all net. He moves without the ball and his release his quick. He also had a number of transition 3’s during the weekend. With his size, he has the ability to score around the basket on short jumpers and turnarounds.
Dajuan Fields 5’11” Team Ramey CCM-White: A very quick guard from Miller Career Academy who may have the size of of a point guard, but he really operates well off the ball, He has a quick first step and he uses shots fakes well to blow by defenders for layups. When he was left open on the wing, he displayed the ability to knock down a 3-pointer off the catch.
Eli Cook 6’1″ All Missouri Attack: An excellent all-purpose player from Hartville who does many things to help his team be successful. He is capable of going inside and getting things done despite being undersized. He is a solid ball handler who can also facilitate offense and get buckets, especially when he is attacking the basket. He also rebounds well for his size.
Hasani Spann 6’0″ Team Ramey CCM-White: A young sniper from MICDS who shot the ball from 3-point range throughout the weekend. He has a quick release and he’s capable of putting up points in bunches when he has his shot going..He is also developing a nice little in-between game to combat defenders who close out on him to hard. He also gives a good effort on defense, moving his feet.
Nickhai Howard 6’0″ Victory Ministry-Blue: A solidly built guard from Webb City who competes with a high motor. He loves to stay on the attack and probe the defense for openings until he gets to the basket. He is a nice jump shooter on the move and he will knock down an open 3-pointer. Uses his body to protect the ball well against pressure defense.
TJ Sorgenfrei 5’11” Missouri Flight: A solid guard from Nixa who can really shoot the basketball when left open. He was good off the catch and he moves well without the ball and will come up firing after coming off a screen. He handles the ball well, but he is better off the ball because he was constantly moving.
