They recently remade the back gym and added a brand new weight room, which looked like a college campus. It was impressive to say the least. All the bracket finals ended up there on Sunday.
Some of the top teams from Nevada and California invaded the state and were impressive.
Here were some out of state players who shined when I viewed their teams:
Will McClendon SG 6’3 190 2021 Bishop Gorman (NV)
-Big time shooter off the catch. Huge hands and great length to defend. Good passer and team player. He smartly picks his spots when to shoot it. Has that thick college frame and is very aggressive on defense with a big wingspan to defend. He has a good handle, not elite, but is a smart passer, rarely over dribbles and just makes smart decisions. Always seems to be calm and cool. He can in and out dribble and rise up from mid-range but loves to shoot off the catch mostly. He had a breakout game vs Mater Dei with 7 3’s and received an offer from Arizona after the game. Bishop Gorman defeated Mater Dei in the finals of one the top pools.
Devin Askew PG 6’3 195 2021 Mater Dei (CA)
-Big time shooter and better passer then he gets credited with. He is highly competitive and can rattle off deep shots. His feel for where his teammates are just as high as anyone. He loves his step back off the dribble 3pt shot from anywhere beyond the line. He is very strong and brings his physicality on defense. He has decent speed but uses his size, high skill and passing ability to make him of the better scoring lead guards in Cali.
Zaon Collins PG 6’0 155 2021 Bishop Gorman (NV)
-Pure PG. The ball is on a string for him. Very fast with the ball in his hands and makes others better. Incredible speed to defend but is obviously undersized vs the bigger guards. His ability to change speeds helps him get by his defender and get to lane and score.
Reese Dixon SF 6’4 194 2021 Dorsey (CA)
-Young looking wing is becoming more and more skilled as he gets older. He is very athletic and long. He is an outstanding rebounder and loves getting downhill but he is skilled from mid-range. He made multiple Dirk moves from around 17-feet and he is big time second jumper on the glass.
Anthony Swift F 6’6 195 2021 Desert Pines (NV)
-Looking for that new age forward with position-less basketball, Swift is your guy. He can defend either forward spots with incredible length and athleticism. His arms are long and gets off the ground effortlessly. He grew up an elbow and in shooter but has now extended his range out to the 3pt line and it looks more polished. He flies around the court and will catch lob dunks and rebound out of area.
Deshawn Wiley SG/SF 6’4 180 2021 Desert Pines (NV)
-Long and super athletic wing gets out on the break with the best of them. He can make the 3pt shot plus get to the rack with good body control. His handle is good not great and could improve his confidence as a perimeter shooter. Very active on defense and is a good rebounder and an unselfish passer.
Dylan Andrews PG 6’0 165 2022 Windward (CA)
-Scoring lead guard is a tough player. Fearless attacking the basket with a tight handle in traffic. Very skilled shooter from mid to the 3pt line. Great body control to finish tough layups. His pull-up off the dribble from mid-range is very hard to defend. He may be a little smaller than your typical stud PG but plays so hard and is very efficient.
Windward defeated Coronado (NV) in the finals of in one of the top pools.
