The ABCA really hit a home run with this event and are trying to do more to bring exposure to players. While there were many games and I cover both boys and girls, I was only able to go to so many games, so if your favorite player isn’t on my lists, it is probably because I didn’t watch that team. Check out our site all week for Section 7 coverage from all of our staff. Here are my Section 7 Top Forwards!
Wilhelm Breidenbach 6’9 2021 F (Mater Dei)
This guy really impressed me, not only with his size and great defensive presence, but he shot the heck out of the ball. He routinely knocked down 3 after 3 after 3. Defensively, he was very tough to handle due to his size and great timing on his blocks.
DaRon Holmes 6’9 2021 F (Millennium)
Holmes looks much improved from last season and this tournament was a great coming out party for him, showing that he can play with the best of the best. He was matched up with bigger and more highly recruited forwards and he held his own and got his. Holmes picked up an offer from USC.
Dylan Anderson 6’10 2022 F (Perry)
Anderson’s potential is off the charts. He has all of the tools to be a really good college player. It all just needs to come together for him and he still has time since he is so young. Anderson shot the ball well and played decent defense. I would love for him to be more effective defensively going forward.
Isaiah Cottrell 6’8 2020 F (Bishop Gorman)
The recent West Virginia commit looked very solid this weekend. He is a very good defender and a great athlete. His athleticism makes him a very tough defender and Cottrell was doing some good things in the post. He is very strong and easily moves defenders out of his way and finishes with a soft touch.
Nathan Bittle 6’10 2021 F (Crater)
Bittle was as good as advertised. You never know with those highlight tapes and media hype whether or not is fabricated. Bittle can play! He is a force to be reckoned with on the defensive end and draws a ton of defensive attention on the offensive side of the ball. Bittle has really good timing on his blocks and the longest arms you’ll ever see. He easily turns away 5+ shots a game.
Logan Phillips 6’8 2020 F (Valley Christian)
Logan Phillips scored the ball effectively this event. He got a couple of games with 20-30 points. Phillips has a guards skill set and a forwards height. I think he is a perfect fit for a SF spot, being athletic enough and big enough to run that spot. Phillips just needs to add some weight and he’ll be all set.
