The “who’s who” of Arizona Basketball and AAU basketball were all in attendance. Want to give a huge shout out to the AZ Basketball Coaches Association for throwing such an amazing event. Here is my recap from day 1!
Millennium vs Mater Dei
Millennium played Mater Dei very close and led at the half. The story quickly flipped once the second half emerged and Mater Dei won big! Millennium simply ran out of gas. They played their hearts out in the first half and just ran out of gas. DaRon Holmes and Justus Jackson looked really good for Millennium. Justus Jackson even earned himself another D1 offer from North Carolina A&T. Mater Dei’s point guard, Devin Askew, looked like the best player on the court. He had well over 10 assists and only 1 turnover. He was throwing dimes left and right. Askew has elite court vision and tremendous passing ability.
High Scorers of the Night
Deven Franks and Ty Ty Washington turned in some stellar games and to the best of my knowledge, they were the two highest scorers of the night. Franks turned in 43 points and Washington scores 30 points.
Top Out of State Players
I was really impressed with the out of state teams, they had some really tough players. KJ Simpson (Chaminade), Dominic Harris (Rancho Christian), Isaiah Cottrell (Bishop Gorman), and Will McClendon (Bishop Gorman) all really stood out to me. Funny enough, the last three listed all play together for Dream Vision 17u.
