For the 17th annual shootout is loaded with the best teams and talent in the Chicagoland area. Here are the standouts from the first night of action!
Bloom Runs
In a packed gym full of coaches from all over to watch the four Bloom 2020’s the coaches were not disappointed. Donovan Newby (23 points) is the player that stood out the most against Morton as he drilled several threes for his team. Keshawn Williams (17 points) provided the excitement with his athletic plays attacking the rim and making occasional shots from deep. Dante Maddox Jr.(13 points) who didn’t get it going from deep decided to attack more and be a facilitator for his teammates. Martice Mitchell (10 points) did a good job on the boards and finishing missed shots. It was a collective effort in the blowout win over Morton.
Niles Norte Dame Duo Becomes Trifecta
The Dons were lucky to get Anthony Sayles and Troy D’ Amico as freshmen. Two kids that just knows how to score. They received another gift in Louis Lesmond a transfer from Evanston by way of France. In their matchup against Ridgewood they all took turns taking over the game. Sayles started off by attacking hard to the rim using strong attack moves around defenders as well as being extremely physical seeking body contact and finishing through guys. Troy was very cerebral using shot fakes and nice spin move in the paint for solid finishes. Lesmond made some athletic plays in transition for Norte Dame. One particular play was an alley-oop from out of bounds the he flushed with both hands . They would go on and win this game handedly. Sayles had 19 points, D’Amico had 18 points, and Lesmond chipped in 13 points. A nice strong showing for this new big 3!
Neuqua Valley Thumps De La Salle
In what ended up being a route from start to finish Neuqua Valley started out on fire and never cooled off. This game started with John Poulakidas making a couple of threes. De La Sale would go zone and then John decided the make a couple more threes. At this point DLS were down double digits and weren’t able to make a run. Poulakidas just kept finding ways to score. He made shots from the corner, off the dribble pulling up, from the mid-range, and out of the low post. He could do no wrong. He would finish with 7 three pointers and lead in scoring with 29 points.
Homewood Flossmoor Knocks off Host Riverside Brookfield
I caught this game at half time when RJ Ogom started to pick up steam and take over the game. Ogom is just physical around the rim. He literally tries to snatch everything that comes near him. When his teammates missed shots he was right there to finish the play. On offense the ball moved well for the Vikings and RJ took advantage of that by getting to open areas on the court and knocking down a few threes as well. He’s starting to round out his game and what better place to do that then in front of a sea full of coaches. RJ finished with 22 points and a win.
