Recruiting Report: Terrance Williams (2020)
Terrance Williams is one of the most recruitable forwards you will find in the country. He is a versatile producer and a flat out winner who brings the best of both worlds when it comes to basketball and academics. Williams recently narrowed down his list of schools as he prepares to make a decision. He spoke with Prep Hoops about his Top-100 Camp experience and recruitment during a recent interview.
PH: Last year, you were injured and couldn’t play while you were here. How’s it been getting a chance to play, get up and down this year?
TW: “Last year for me, I didn’t really like the experience. Just sitting out. I wanted to play against this competition. This year, I got a chance to do that in front of college coaches and NBA scouts. It’s been a good experience.”
PH: What are you trying to show coaches you can do out here?
TW: “I just want to show my expanded game while keeping my normal game. Inside-out, versatility, work on my handles really and my shot.
PH: You recently narrowed down your list of schools. How are things going with your recruitment?
TW: “Things are going well. I’ve been in contact with all the schools that made the cut list. Everybody is still recruiting me pretty hard. I talked with Coach (Phil) Martelli from Michigan recently. He’s part of their new coaching staff. They’re thinking about offering me, so I’m going to see what they do after this weekend.”
PH: When are you visiting Georgetown?
TW: “I’ve got an official visit scheduled very soon. This Wednesday through Friday.”
PH: What other officials have you taken?
TW: “University of Virginia, Stanford, Notre Dame, and DePaul.”
PH: What did you experience on each visit?
TW: “UVA, you know, they were the first to get me on an official. Great school, good culture down here. They won a national championship so that’s great. Very exciting experience. Stanford has a good blend of education and basketball being in the Pac-12. The location is very pretty. Notre Dame, with Coach (Mike) Brey. He’s from the area. He recruits from the area heavy. I like his presence. He’s been there from the beginning. And DePaul was my first offer. Chicago was one of my favorite cities. I was having fun out there. I like the location of the school because its in the city.”
PH: What’s your relationship like with the staff at South Carolina?
TW: “I’m still in contact with Coach Bruce (Shingler) and Coach (Frank) Martin. They’ve been there too. Coach Bruce is from the area, he used to coach me when I was little, so we have that personal connection.”
PH: Do you plan on visiting South Carolina?
TW: “I was supposed to take an official visit there, but the hurricane came so I had to cancel it. But I’m going to try and get there soon.
PH: Where’s NC State in this picture?
TW: “Its very high. Coach (Kevin) Keatts, he brought me down for an unofficial two years ago. They were one of the early schools to offer me. So I’m keeping that in perspective.”
PH: What are you looking for in a school?
TW: “I’m looking for both education and academics. I want to go where it feels like a family. Where I feel like I’ll be safe with the community.”
