Continue ReadingCollinsville point guard Ray’Sean Taylor was the highest ranked Illinois prospect at the Show Me Showdown last weekend. He lived up to that billing when we saw him play with Gateway Illinois 17U. The scoring guard a big time bucket getter from the point guard position. Explosive driver off the bounce who lived at the rim! Finishes in a variety of ways including acrobatic layups, euro steps, and finishing through contact. Crisp passer that has a solid feel for the game. Taylor is primed to be one of the top players in the metro east on a Collinsville squad that should make some noise! How did this past season go?
“We made a big improvement from last year and won a lot more games. We finished games off. We played several state championship teams in our conference. We didn’t end the way we wanted, but that doesn’t take away from what we accomplished.”
Last year a pair of teams in Belleville West and East St. Louis won state titles out of Collinsville’s conference.
“It was fun playing them. For three years I played against EJ Liddell and Terrence Hargrove. It is a new chapter now. We are the top dogs now and we understand that. We are going to put it together.”
What areas of his game has he seen the most growth?
“My confidence went up shooting the three. I could always shoot it, but I shoot a lot more now. I am still getting to the basket and leading the team.”
Taylor updated us on his recruitment.
“I have four offers from SIU-Edwardsville, SEMO, UMKC, and North Florida. I have a lot of schools looking at me like Wright State, Drake, Green Bay, Milwaukee, and Cornell.”
What schools are really making you feel like a priority?
“SEMO was the first school to offer me and Coach Perkins texts me everyday. SIU-Edwardsville texts me a lot and came to some of my games. They are close so they are going to pop out.”
Taylor is a top 15 prospect in the 2020 class in Illinois and one of the better point guards in a strong group of floor generals!
