Continue ReadingSix-foot-2 guard Jaxton Wiest has led North Dakota Attack Blue to a top five spot in the 17u rankings this season after leading the WDA in assists this winter as a junior.
The Attack is 11-7 on the season with headlining local wins over North Dakota Attack Green and Inspired Athletics. Now that Wiest has hit June he will have a mix of time with his Mandan squad and his Attack team over the next several weeks.
“My summer plans for competing will be playing with the 17U ND Attack Blue and Mandan Braves team camps, Jaxton told PHD. “My work out plan for this summer includes: daily Mandan open gyms, the Sanford Power lifting program, and working out with Mark Kinnebrew through I’mPossible training. I also plan on attending various college prospect camps.”
With Wiest hearing from schools about playing at the next level there are several schools that want to see Jaxton at their camp in the coming weeks/months.
“I haven’t taken any official visits, but I have heard from the University of Jamestown, Concordia-Moorhead College, Minot State, Dakota State, and Southwest State,? Jaxton said.
Mandan was 16-10 a year ago but with Wiest returning as a 10.6 per game that led the league in assists plus was top ten in steals, and Elijah Klein being one of the state’s most unstoppable forces, expectations are once again high for the Braves.
“I think our team has a lot of talent. We only have two returning starters—Elijah Klein and myself, but we have a lot of potential with underclassmen and to-be seniors ready to step up. I believe we can not only be a top contender in the WDA, but the state as well.”
For the team to be at their best next winter the best players have to lead, and get better themselves. Wiest has his plan:
“The three things I will be working on will be my shot consistency, my three point range, and my overall strength and durability.”
But before we can think about Mandan’s high school season there are three more Attack events that need to be played and the season has been fun.
“I’ve really enjoyed playing with my teammates and playing under Coach Taylor Jones this season,” Jaxton said.
