“This year’s team will rely on toughness and chemistry as a group. Most of us have played together since 4th grade,” Walter told NHR. “Our expectations are to always have high energy on the court and give it our all while making smart decisions.”
Walter was good for a couple scores each game as a junior and will see that number of opportunities take a jump this year. Also returning from a roster that went 23-6 is center Francis Nwaokorie, combo forward Cooper Olson, point guard T.J. Moberg, guard Josh Strong and forwards Jaice Miller and Ethan Rens. All saw valuable time last season and will look to step in next to Walter as veteran presences.
Walter’s having a strong run with Minnesota Heat Vang, one of the more disciplined and hard-nosed squads on the circuit. That fits his style of play, using his body and physicality to create advantages, and he has found a good rhythm in his role alongside other versatile players.
“Coach Vang and Coach Nord are two very good coaches with high energy at all times. They recruited a great team this year with many different skillsets,” Walter said. “I’m glad I had the opportunity to be part of such a reputable program.”
Some of Walter’s best traits include his defensive footwork (can guard positions 1-4) and his willingness to jump in the fray of the paint to score and rebound. For D3s, that’s an attractive repertoire.
“The schools that have been in contact with me this spring are Bethel, Hamline, Gustavus, Northwestern-St. Paul, Concordia-Moorhead and St. Olaf,” Walter listed. “These are all great schools and great programs that I will be looking into more!”
Catch Walter in July with Heat Vang and be on the lookout for a stellar senior campaign at Champlin Park.
