Recruiting Report: Cameron Thomas (2020)
The race to land Cameron Thomas, the EYBL scoring champion, heated up last week at Top-100 Camp. NC State, UConn, Oregon, Arkansas, and Auburn were among the schools who brought their entire staff to watch Thomas. During an interview with Prep Hoops, he described the important factors in his decision among other topics.
PH: Who do you model your game after?
CT: “I like to watch a lot of Kobe, Devin Booker, and James Harden. So a lot of scorers.”
PH: What was playing at Oak Hill like for you?
CT: “It was great. Definitely a learning experience. It my first time being away from home. I got to play with other great players like Cole Anthony, Kofi Cockburn and Christian Brown.”
PH: Where are things at in your recruitment?
CT: “I don’t have anything planned so far. I took two official visits to NC State and UConn.”
PH: How was the NC State visit for you?
CT: “It was great. I got to see how they practice as a team, the campus. It was just a learning experience for me.”
PH: What about the UConn visit? How was that?
CT: “It was great. I got to see Ray Allen get his jersey when they invited me out to their game. He talked to us for a bit. We took a picture, so that was great.”
PH: What’s your relationship like with Coach Kevin Keatts?
CT: “Great guy. We have a great relationship. He’s been recruiting me since the ninth grade now, so that should say a lot. Me and him are on the same page, so that’s great.”
PH: What about Coach Dan Hurley?
CT: “Same thing. He’s been building a relationship with me this year. I really like him. Great guy, down to earth. Very relatable.”
PH: What’s important in your decision?
CT: “Just building a relationship with the head coach. See how he’s going to let me play. And education of course. So mainly coaching, education, and lifestyle.”
