Heading into July events the ECI Prospects are 20-4 on the year. It’s been the type of season that Blake signed up for.
“ECI has helped me a lot throughout my basketball career, it gives me an opportunity to play against better competition that I have never seen before,” Berg explained. “They also host workouts once every week which has helped me a lot as well.”
Those workouts are a big part of the summer schedule that Blake has laid out for himself. Another big part is pushing the Mustangs to a 20 win year, and some championships to speak of. Blake is one part of a talented, experienced, and balanced 2020 class of Sheyenne Mustangs. He will be joined by Zion Dettmann, Nathan Goldade, Tyler Terhark, and Chuck DuBois as experienced pieces in that group.
“Our high school team is looking really good for next year,” Berg explained. “We’ve been playing really good in team camps, we also have very good chemistry because we have been playing with each other for a very long time.
“Our goal for this season is to get to the state tournament after falling short of making it last year, I believe we have the right guys to do it this year.”
Berg spent the previous weekend at the University of Mary Team Camp where a scholarship offered was earned while competing and unofficially the division two program.
“I really like the basketball program they have at U of Mary,” Berg said. “All of the players that were at the camp were having fun together and you could tell that they enjoy playing basketball at U of Mary. The camp was great as well. There was very good competition at the camp which made the 5v5 games more fun and competitive.”
Berg shot 45 percent from the field on his nine shots a game as a junior and is a 70 percent foul shooter. Add in the 2 to 1 assist to turnover ratio on the wing and you have a good sized guard that has the attention of college programs. The next level is certainly on the mind of Berg.
“I’m wanting to play college basketball after high school. For academics I’m looking into engineering, construction management, and business. I’ve been talking to U of Mary, Minot State, Bemidji State, Southwest Minnesota State, and St. John’s.”
