Washington’s 2021 class has the most depth of talent out of any in our state and the Quaker Slam did not give me any reason to change my mind. These sophomores, going to be juniors, are all legitimate college prospects that we will be tracking very closely for the next couple years.
2021 Quaker Slam Standouts:
2021 6’4 SG Ja’Von Ervin (Lakes HS) – Ja’Von has been on our radar for some time now, but he has recently taken his game to a new level. Coach Jordan Barnes of Lakes High School spoke of his work ethic and it has surely paid off so far. The strongly build off-guard showed the ability to score from multiple levels and he is now finishing above the rim. He can bully smaller guards and finish with power, but he has a solid amount of finesse as well. College coaches should be tracking Ja’Von closely now.
2021 6’4 SF Joe Cookson (Seattle Academy) – Joe was a solid performer throughout the weekend. I had the opportunity to watch almost all of Seattle Academy’s games and he showed flashes in each game. He has above average length and a smooth pull up jumper. As he continues to work on his strength, it will help him to advance to another level with his game. Another player to keep an eye on.
2021 6’6 SF Messiah Jones (Kamiakin HS) – Easily one of the strongest wing players in the event. Messiah is a load to handle inside, but he showed some natural ability on the perimeter as well. He is also a star wide receiver, but if he puts the time into basketball, he could be a Division 1 prospect with his size and athleticism. For now, he enjoys playing both sports. *Feature image
2021 6’9 PF Jackson Grant (Olympia HS) – One of the very best prospects in the entire event. Jackson was coming off of Under Armour’s Workout at IMG Academy in Florida, but he still showed up and has some great moments. I really like his ability to stretch the defense out and he is a good offensive rebounder. He had one of the best moments of the weekend with a two-handed put back dunk over two opposing players. One area that will help Jackson is continuing to add core strength to hold his position versus smaller players that try to get low into him defensively.
2021 6’4 SF Isaac Ticeson (Eastside Catholic HS) – I also watched Eastside Catholic every game in the event and really came away impressed with Ticeson. He is pushing 6’5 and he really knows how to play the game. He has a cooler demeanor, but he can get physical and mix things up. He is a very good offensive rebounder and uses his jumping ability and timing to get put backs. He also showed some potential as a perimeter defensive stopper with his length, strength and lateral foot speed.
2021 6’7 SF Kenzel Massey (Lakes HS) – One of the more naturally gifted players in the event. Kenzel can really get hot from three and he is most comfortable playing on the perimeter. He is most deadly when he is looking to make plays attacking the basket, as much as he is shooting his three ball. He has a lot of tools to work with and appears to be a solid Division 1 prospect.
