Over the past year, the 5-11 lead guard has developed into one of the region’s most improved floor generals.
Balancing his potent scoring abilities with his rapidly developing playmaking has been the catalyst for Stinson’s breakout summer.
After playing a key role in the Cavers Division 3 championship, Stinson has paired with junior guard AJ Burgin to comprise one of Southern California’s most potent back courts.
And colleges are taking notice – Division 3 Whitman College became the first school to recruit him.
“I feel like the move has paid off because I’m finally getting the looks that I’ve been wanting, and it’s given me more exposure,” Stinson said. “The coaches have helped me develop my game to become more than just a scorer, but a point guard.”
Stinson, who plays AAU for the San Diego All Stars, said his strengths of his game are his ability to break down defenders, finish through contact and score from midrange. He said while he has improved as a passer, he understands his scoring keeps the defense honest.
As he enters into his final year, Stinson – who is still 16 – said he is looking for a college that will help him continue his development and teach him “how to grow as a player and a man.”
He said his main goals for his senior year are to commit to a school, keep developing as a player, and win CIF for a second straight year and possible a state title.
