At 6’0, Weixelman is a heady player who focuses on doing the little things that helps his team win. He is willing to defend, rebound and plays with a big motor.
He says competing with SSA Elite has helped his game grow and prepared him for the upcoming season as he has put in time working on becoming a better defender and all-around player.
“Being around a different group of guys is always fun,” he says. “We all bring different assets to the table and we build off one another. By learning and playing with different guys for the last few years I’ve been able to expand my game which in the end will help translate to the school season.
“This year I’ve been working to become a better defender. Competing at a high level of basketball requires you to do the little things correctly. I’ve learned to become passionate about playing defense and getting quality stops.”
Coming off an 8-14 season a year ago, Weixelman says the 2018-19 season was a learning experience that he hopes they can grow from in the future.
“We struggled early and went through some growing pains but in the end we learned from mistakes and we will be better from it this year,” he says.
Weixelman says a family friend has had the biggest impact on his basketball career to date.
“He has always been supportive and kept up with me throughout my career,” Weixelman said. “He’s always given me motivation to keep going even when I didn’t want to.”
A fan of recent NBA draft pick and former Virginia standout Ty Jerome, Weixelman says he appreciates the guard’s all-around game.
“(He) is a great player to watch,” Weixelman says. “He’s a floor general that does everything right. He creates for others, gets stops on defense, and scores when he needs to. I’ve always enjoyed his game and hopefully i can develop that same “floor general” presence on the court as well.”
