An aggressive player on both sides of the ball, Stone is a slasher who can get to the rim and finish tough chances in the lane. He likes to draw fouls and get to the free throw line and takes pride in being a high basketball IQ player.
Perry Lecompton will be replacing five seniors from a team that is coming off a 22-3 season and a third-place finish at the Kansas Class 3A state tournament.
“We have a really good program and a lot of talent,” Stone said. “I know coach is really looking for me to step up this year and lead.”
Stone says running with the Kansas Cagers 16U squad this offseason has helped him prepare for the bigger role with his high school team this upcoming season.
“One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned playing for the Cagers is how to be a leader on the court,” he says. “Coach Jason McCoy has encouraged me to take on a leadership role and I’ve gotten a lot more vocal on the court.”Stone says his dad has had the biggest influence on his basketball career to date.
“I’ve always had a ball in my hand,” Stone says. “My dad has always been my biggest fan. He records almost every game and he believes in me more than anyone else. After he took me as far as he could he was committed to finding the coach that could take me further. I have always had a passion for the game but my dad has been the one in my corner supporting my dream.”
A fan of recent NBA champion Kawhi Leonard, Stone says he appreciates his ability to play at both ends of the floor.
“He is humble and a great well rounded player,” Stone said. “I feel like I am a very strong player on both sides of the ball but I’m also humble enough to know it takes a team effort.”
