Greenwood, Warren East and South Warren are all pushing to knock off Bowling Green and Warren Central and Kaleb is putting in the work to get the Raiders back to the 4th region tournament. In 17 varsity games last season, Matlock averaged 8.5 points and 1.6 rebounds and established himself as a top 2022 in the district along with Turner Buttry and Cade Stinnett. Kade described his game to me, “I would say my game consists of a big emphasis on shooting whether it be off the dribble or spot up. However I also like to finish at the hole or draw defenders and kick out to teammates.”
Matlock may be young but he is not afraid to be a vocal leader on the floor. Kaleb told me, “The strengths of my game include shooting and being vocal with my teammates on the court.” Moving forward, the rising Sophomore is hoping to become a more complete player. He told me, “Some areas where I think I have room to improve on include ball handling and defense.” After having a role with the Raiders that gradually increased over the course of his freshman season, Kaleb was pleased with how his first varsity season went. He told me, “Last year I believe I took some unnecessary shots when I could have worked the ball around some. But overall I am not dissatisfied with my freshman year.”
Kaleb has elected to end his 15u AAU season after the spring season and shifted his focus to playing with his Warren East varsity team. Matlock said, “We had a pretty good aau season, we mostly stayed local and competed at tournaments in BG. I recorded a 30 point game over the aau season.” It’s very early in his career and Kaleb hasn’t yet impressed any college coaches but he is going to have that chance over the course of his career. For now, the Sophomore guard is focused on having a big 2019-2020 season for Warren East. He told me, “Next year, I would like to be a better leader for my team and do what it takes for us to succeed as a program. I really am trying to work on the tangibles.” For Warren East to get back to the 4th region tournament, Matlock and his Raider teammates are going to need to take their games up a notch and Kaleb is more than capable of being an impact player in the 4th.
