He says playing up with a group of older players on the Hoggs has helped prepare him for the upcoming high school season. Smith was a key member of a Topeka team that went 18-3 in 2018-19.
“Playing with the Hogg’s is fun but it’s been rough,” he says. “We lost a few games but we still play hard no matter what. I feel like it’s getting me in shape.”
Smith says he is working on becoming a well-rounded player this offseason.
“I worked on blowing past a Defender and pulling up for a mid range,” he said. “Also I been working on my defense being more aggressive.”
Smith says his grandfather has had the biggest influence on his basketball career to date.
“He made sure to get me places and made sure I have everything I need,” Smith says. “When it comes to basketball it’s my uncle mike he trained me everyday after school he pushed me to be the best.”
Smith says he enjoys watching former Alabama standout and current Cleveland Cavs guard Collin Sextion.
“I mimic parts of his game and his intensity,” Smith says.
