The talent level there is way up and they’re competing and contending with teams in the 11th region like they haven’t in years. But graduation is hitting the Patriots hard. Losing their top two scorers, they are going to look to rebuild and Junior Jackson Perry plans to be a big part of their continuing success. Perry told me, “I’m a do it all point guard who can shoot the three ball extremely well and attack the rim when I need to. I’m not selfish and will make great passes to my teammates for open looks. I’m a dog on the court and don’t fear anyone.”
Heading into his Junior season, Perry is working to diminish his weaknesses and build up his strengths. The point guard told me, “My strengths are my shooting ability and my ball handling. I can also play lock down defense when in a close game.” Jackson’s biggest weakness right now is just that he is a smaller guard and lacks strength. He told me, “My physical frame is my biggest weakness. I am only 125 lbs and 5’8 so I have to rely on my skills to take me places.” In order to get over the hump in the 44th district and get to the 11th region tournament, Perry will need to get past Madison Central and Madison Southern. Model couldn’t do that last season, despite an 18 win season, “My Sophomore season was good. It was not the ending we wanted though. We lost in the first round of district to a good Madison Central team. I averaged around 16 points in JV games (4 in varsity) and even hit 6 threes in 9 minutes against Nicholas county.”
With his high school summer season starting up, Perry is planning to take his momentum from a good AAU season with Cky Edge into his high school games. Jackson told me, “The AAU season has gone great, we got runner ups in the gold state championship bracket and runner ups in multiple mid America tournaments.” His recruiting is just getting started but Perry is hearing from a lot of schools, “No offers right now but I have gotten interest from many out of state schools. I have been personally invited to about 20 elite camps this summer.” Heading into summer ball and July AAU, Jackson Perry is setting some lofty goals for himself and his team moving forward, “My goals are to start varsity and just do whatever my needs me to do be able to win. Also to win district and win the all A region classic championship.”
