Lewis put on a scoring display at KBC’s The Journey tournament back in April and has continued to play at a high level all spring. Darien can play either guard spot but is best in attack mode as a scorer. Darien told me, “My game is like Patrick Beverly. I like to get in people’s heads and play defense. I can score really good. I can shoot it, especially in the mid range.” Lewis sees himself as a big time two way player. When I asked him about his strengths, he told me that his biggest strengths are his defense and scoring the ball. Darien also told me that he needs to do a better job of keeping his head during games, “My weakness is my mental attitude. I’ve got to control that better.”
Darien was limited to playing at the freshman level in the 2018-19 season but had a solid season. Lewis told me, “My high school season went good. I averaged over 15 points on freshman and was a good leader. I got everyone hype.” Darien is spending his 15u AAU season playing with Starz United/M.A.T.T.S. Mustangs and told me he’s having a really good season playing on the Under Armour Rise Circuit. Darien is still young and has plenty of time for his recruiting to start up but his primary focus is on becoming a bigger piece of the puzzle at Fern Creek next season. He told me “My individual goals are to be a good leader and to help lead my team to another regional championship.” Darien is not yet a well known name in the Louisville basketball scene but if he continues to develop, he is going to have a chance to play at the college level.
