Similar to how Walter Johnson went from a Trinity backup to Ballard’s best player in the course of a summer. Ballard Junior Austin Chiles is hoping to follow a similar path after sitting out his Sophomore year following a transfer from Central to Ballard. Austin calls himself and “all around player” and says that his biggest strength on the court is transitioning from defense to offense. He said he is unstoppable in transition on the court. Chiles claims that his biggest weakness is a lack of confidence but he does seem to be improving his game in all areas, including the mental side.
After struggling with eligibility at Ballard this year, Chiles has been thrilled to be on the court as part of Pride Athletics. He is enjoying his 16u season and recently added interest from the University of Akron and Arkansas State in recent weeks. Pride Athletics director Jeff Large says that Chiles is a big part of their program, “Austin is always positive and always smiling. One of the most upbeat players we have. Even through his injury he was positive and couldn’t wait to get back. His family is raising a great young man. On the court he plays hard and is learning to become more aggressive offensively. He has the ability to score at a high rate and when his 3 point shot improves he will be a big match-up problem, even more than he is now.” Unfortunately, Austin suffered an injury in the April live period in Pittsburgh but came back full strength at the end of the AAU season. Look for Chiles to make an impression on coaches this July.
