Prospect Spotlight: Aldane Barrett (2021)
Davenport West big man Aldane Barrett has a lot of upside, and could soon emerge as a top center in Iowa.
The 6-foot-7 post was a starter with Davenport West last season as a sophomore, and was picked up by the Iowa Barnstormers’ Gold 16u squad, where he’s been honing his skills on the adidas Gauntlet this spring.
“I run the floor pretty good for a 6’7 center, and my job is to rebound, block shots and be strong under the basket when I post up,” Barrett Said.
“I want to continue and improve my quickness and my strength, because most guys in college are going to be a lot stronger.”
With Davenport West last season, Barrett got some valuable experience while averaging 6.1 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game.
“My sophomore season was my first year starting on varsity, so they taught me a lot of stuff and how to be a leader and how to communicate on defense. And that if you miss a shot, it’s not the end of the world, just get back on defense,” said Barrett.
“Next year, I’ll have to be a leader and show out, and we have plans to win the MAC title and to do that we’ll all have to be on the same page.”
Ahead of his junior season, Barrett will spend his summer again with Iowa Barnstormers Gold 16u. It’s a great opportunity for the young big man to hone his skills against the best competition in the nation, and do so with lots of college coaches watching.
“Playing with the Barnstormers has taught me to be more aggressive as I play with very competitive opponents. I’m looking forward to going to Cali and playing in the adidas Gauntlet Finale,” said Barrett.
Recruitment: “I plan to get some looks and maybe some offers pretty soon, hopefully before I go into my school year,” he said. “I’m looking forward to a scholarship and whatever school offers me, I’ll be happy.”
