The 17U and 16U Phenom teams stand out because of their rosters that are jam-packed with talent. The 15U Phenom team, however, lacks in accolades and star power. Most of this is due to the squad’s youth; having a lineup with five players who are ranked inside the top ten for Wisconsin’s 2022 class is rare and very special. This team has a lot of growing and improving to do, but they have the potential for greatness.
Maximus Nelson is the highest ranked prospect on this Phenom team, coming in at number three in the 2022 rankings. Nelson is a stretch three/four who has a lot of upside. The 6’7” forward is a deadly shooter who makes the most out of his open looks. During his freshman season at Appleton North, Nelson registered 10.6 points per game. relied on his sweet shooting stroke to score most of his points, but if he can become a better player in the paint, he will be a tough draw for any defender.
At the forward position, Phenom has two players who are teeming with talent: Steven Clay and Amari Jedkins. Clay is one of the best pure scorers in his class. The 6’5” forward can drive, shoot, and get a bucket when his team needs it. Jedkins is a little more of a project. If he can discover his full potential, he will be a big problem for other teams.
Undersized? Yes, but Seth Trimble and Armani Jones are two of the best point guards in Wisconsin’s 2022 class. Trimble is a great facilitator who makes everyone around him better. Jones is a pure scorer who has made a habit out of launching — and making — deep threes. Like this team, Trimble and Jones have a lot of maturing to do. If this team is to truly become Wisconsin’s premier squad, a lot of the weight will be put on the shoulders of this backcourt duo.
The fight for Wisconsin’s banner 15U team has not been completed yet, but this Phenom team has already thrown a couple of haymakers. Serving as a recruiting goldmine for younger players, Phenom U 15U has the luxury of having multiple stars to turn to when a big play is needed.
