The 17th annual Pangos All-American Camp who is run by Dinos Trigonis came to an end on Sunday. I was able to catch the last round of camp games on Sunday morning. As I walked around Cerritos College gymnasium, these are some players who caught my attention on Sunday morning.
Cade Cunningham (Montverde Academy- Montverde, FL) Cade is in the running for the #1 spot in the 2020 class depending on which recruiting service website you check out. Cade has himself a very productive Sunday morning at the Pangos camp. He is a big guard, who can see over the defense in the half court. At times on Sunday morning, Cade would catch the ball at either the elbow or in the post area and find cutters to baskets for dunks. Cade is a smooth scorer who really uses his body well to get to the basket. He has excellent touch around the hoop. His jump shot has improved since I last saw him and if that continues, it is possible that Adam Silver could be calling his name one day.
Posh Alexander (Our Savior Lutheran- Bronx, NY) Posh was hitting some deep 3’s on Sunday morning. He came off the bench and brought high energy to his team. I am not sure what he ate for breakfast Sunday morning, but he was all over the court. Posh had about five steals on Sunday morning which led to two points for his team on the other end. One of those two points was a windmill dunk by Posh which shows you the athleticism he possesses.
Yassine Gharram (Foothills Christian- El Cajon, CA) Yassine was one of the last to be invited to the camp, but he showed he belongs especially on Sunday morning. I like that Yassine created a passing culture for his team on Sunday morning. This is very tough to do, especially in a camp setting. Yassine was penetrating the defense, kicking it out to the open man for three drop off passes to his big men, and find lane runners on the fast break.
Alex Karaban (Algonquin Regional- Northborough, MA) Karaban was one of the few class of 2022 guys at the Pangos All-American Camp. There is no doubt he earned an invitation back in the next few years. Karaban moved very well without the ball which helped him get a lot of easy buckets on Sunday morning. Karaban also showed the ability to knock down the corner 3. I enjoyed Karaban’s game because he can do a bit of everything. He is a complete basketball player in an era where we don’t see many of those. As Karaban’s game develops, he will be one to watch at the top of the 2022 class.
Jorge Ochoa (Orange Lutheran- Orange, CA) Jorge was another class of 2022 kid who performed well at the camp. Jorge can bang inside with the bigger guys, but he can also play out on the wing. Jorge is a player who likes to put his head down and get to the bucket. On Sunday morning, he showed the ability to finish with either hand. As a hybrid player, Jorge has the ability to get the rebound and start the fast break for his team.
AJ Hoggard (Huntington Prep- Huntington, WV) AJ is a big body point guard who likes to downhill on the basketball court. He may not look speedy, but AJ can push the ball down the court. In the Sunday morning game, AJ scored ten straight points to force overtime. AJ does a great job of using his body to avoid his shot getting block from lengthy defenders. He showed great ability to run a team from the point guard position. I think he will be a very valuable asset to any division 1 college program.
