Jackets, led by coach Jermaine Simpson, who were among the most struggling teams in 6A last season, have made a 180-degree flip into a positive trajectory.
With some new additions as well as a few returning starters, Choctaw looked good in Stillwater, and it was evident in the energy the Jackets brought to the floor.
That energy, in fact, is some of the best team chemistry I have seen this offseason from a team. The Jackets were a lively squad, celebrating their highs and snapping back from their lows quickly.
Lewis Gurly 2021 Choctaw point guard
Junior floor general Lewis Gurly stepped onto the scene in many ways last weekend. He is a true playmaker from the one-spot who likes to dish the ball down-court when the opportunity presents itself. He handles the ball well can pass the ball in motion. Defensively, he makes a big contribution for the Yellowjackets, as well, locking down opposing ball-handlers and tracking down the ball.
Anthony Bowen 2021 Choctaw combo guard
Anthony Bowen has continued to prove to the rest of 6A that he is the next player ready to make a mark. The junior can do plenty with the ball in his hands, whether it be taking the ball to the rim and finishing high at the rim or pitching the ball out from the point guard position to a cutting forward. There isn’t much Bowen can’t do offensively.
Sean Franklin 2021 Choctaw wing
Transfer junior Sean Franklin has already made a splash for the Yellowjackets in his first summer with the team. The explosive wing has guard-like skills and can impact the game on either end of the floor. Defensively, he’s a lock-down-type athlete with exceptional lateral quickness and adhesiveness. Offensively, he can score with the rock from the wing as a shooter or drive-in scorer.
