Tyirece Walts (2022), E1T1/Osseo
After today, E1T1 is 14-1 and Walts is one of the main reasons. The 6’0″ guard from Osseo gets into the paint with ease, using his superior athleticism to finish above taller defenders. Walts can also step out and hit the long-range jumper. When defenders chose to go under ball screens, Walts confidently buried three-pointers all day. One of the best players in the tournament and definitely a prospect to check out on Sunday.
Ayuba Berthe (2022), E1T1/Park Center
Berthe is a very versatile big. With his impressive lateral movement, Berthe can guard all five positions and is a defensive rebounding machine. Berthe has great chemistry with Walts as the two seem to be on the same page in every pick and roll situation. The 6’3″ forward is no slouch with his back to the basket and can finish consistently with both hands.
Cody Pennebaker (2022), Heat MacDonald/St. Francis
Cody’s on-ball defense changed the game for Heat MacDonald in their comeback win. The 6’2″ guard from St. Francis racked up a handful of second-half pilfers that led to easy layups. Prior to Evan Dushek’s game-winning layup, it was Pennebaker who came up with the steal that set up the critical possession.
Jaxon McDonald. (2022), Minnesota Magic/Chanhassen
McDonald put on a shooting display this evening. In his second round matchup versus MN Exposure, McDonald poured in 18 effortless points along with 4 triples. He has out of the gym range for the 15U level and is dangerous anywhere behind the three point line.
Greg Hopkins (2022), Minnesota Magic/Eden Prairie
Hopkins is a hard-nosed, 5″11 guard that gives effort on every play. As the lead guard for the Magic, Hopkins did a great job of penetrating and finding McDonald for open jump shots. Hopkins also displayed great touch around the rim.
A.J. Kaul (2022), Crossfire Barker/Blaine
Kaul fits in perfectly with Crossfire’s motion offense. In the first half against Select Davis, Kaul ran off screens on back to back possessions for wide open threes. His movement away from the ball reminds me a lot of Ryan Lindberg as Kaul creates separation from defenders by rubbing tightly off his teammates pin-downs.
Josh Megin (2022), MN Exposure/Shakopee
Megin is a disruptive 6’5″ forward that can step out and hit the jumper. Had 14 against the Magic including a huge top of the key three pointer. Similar to Berthe, Megin can guard all five positions and runs the floor extremely well for his size.
Caleb Siwek (2022), MN Select Davis/Rosemount
Siwek has one of the prettier jump shots in the class. When he gets his feet set, his shot is virtually automatic. Against Crossfire, the 6’1″ guard stepped up in crunch time and smoothly drained a game-winning elbow jumper. Siwek not only is a spot-up shooter but can also put the ball on the deck and make plays for his team.
