It takes unique talent to become a great shooter, and this weekend a number of players showed that they have a knack for knocking down shots. Here is a list of some of the top shooters from the NHR State tournament last weekend.
Top Sharpshooters:
Anthony Doppler-
The most impressive shooter on Sunday was Anthony Doppler. It didn’t take long for him to make a significant impact as he scored seven of the first nine points in North Dakota Phenom-Ware’s first game. His ability to run off screens into catch-and-shoot situations made him lethal offensively. He had great balance on turnaround shots and showed the ability to create open shots for himself when offensive sets broke down.
Braden Barger-

Dominating in transition wasn’t the only thing Braden Barger could do well. Barger showed that he can knock down shots with the best guys in the tournament on Friday night. His transition awareness allowed him to find open space for clean looks at the basket, while his ball control allowed him to create shots for himself when he needed to. The featured clip highlights Barger’s ability to create a shot and knock it down.
Jack Janke-
The purest jump shot on display was featured by Jack Janke. His short and quick release allowed him to get shots off before his defender was able to close out to block the shot. He also showed tremendous concentration and was able to hit shots consistently. He also was able to maintain composure when he was found wide open a number of times. Despite having time to set himself, he did not appear to be overwhelmed by pressure, and he was able to collect points for his team.
Nino Johnson-

Nino Johnson‘s ability to hit shots from deep provided Blast Hoops Nicholson with a valuable threat on Friday. The 6’2″ forward’s range allowed his teammates space to work in and forced defenders to stay honest on plays he stayed beyond the arc. While his passing was clearly his best trait, Johnson was also a threat to knock down shots when the passing lanes were closed down.
Andre Renta-
A sharpshooter Wear out the Net-Renta could rely on this weekend was Andre Renta. He possessed a very smooth jump shot with a nice and clean release. Renta was always a threat to hit from three, and his talents provided more space for teammates to work in when he was on the floor.
Tyler Blist-

The modern point guard isn’t just a distributor anymore. They have to be able to shoot. Tyler Blist demonstrated an ability to do so in Plymouth. Blist’s ability to knock down shots off the dribble by using pump fakes was lethal. The featured video highlights his talent of getting defenders in the air and out of position.
Mustafa Aweys-
One of the best pick-and-roll point guards this weekend was Mustafa Aweys. One reason he had success running the play was his ability to shoot coming off of the pick. This ability forced defenders to try and fight over the screen or even double him. If he was left open, he hit the shot. If they doubled or miscommunicated on defense, he punished them by delivering the ball to the roll man.
