Of course it’s still early so there are many things that can still occur but we will take a glance at some of these players and the opportunity they will have next season.
NLCA 2020 Guard Dahaun Jones: The 5’10 speedy guard averaged just under 10 PPG last year and was a player that came off the bench and provided a nice spark for his team for the most part. With a high number of players from the squad last year moving on, Jones will be called on to be more of a leader and will need to just about double his production for them to be successful.
EE Smith 2021 Guard Demetrius Polk Jr: We have been talking about him quite a bit this summer and rightfully so as he has put together a nice amount of showing. He’s playing the game with toughness and has shown a high ability to score the ball which is a role that we should see him fill next season. Don’t be surprised to see his 5 PPG averaged reach over double figures and for him to become one of the leaders of the squad.
Wakefield 2020 Forward Vernon Fraley: Last season he was a solid role player for a team that made a nice run in the state playoffs, averaging just about 10 PPG. With the graduation of senior Elijah Shabazz and Trae Smith, we expect to see some more production from Fraley this year. He has good hands, can play the game in a physical manner in the paint, and the ability to defend multiple positions well.
Fayetteville Academy 2022 Wing Amari Pearson: One thing is for certain, he plays the game with one of the highest motors that you will see without a doubt, he doesn’t take plays off and wants to do whatever it takes to win. Now with the departure of John Michael Wright, Williams Oyeonodi and Emmanuel Izunabor, the Eagles will need some major help from Pearson as far as leadership goes.
New Hanover HS 2020 Wing Mikai Stanley: His production last year at his previous school was solid and we fully expect him to bring the same energy to NHHS. He is a multi-sport athlete and you can see that his ability to play physical on the football field translates to his basketball game as he doesn’t have much of an issue playing through physical contact.
GA Stars 2022 Guard Freddie Dillione: There is a question where he may play next season but one thing is for certain, he will make a major impact. Scoring the ball is something he does well and he’s been in the lab quite a bit this offseason working on his craft.
