New forwards breaking onto the scene (2021)
Each year, a new batch of players emerge on the scene who recruiters need to keep an eye on. Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at several forwards in the 2021 class who are sure to make a name for themselves this upcoming season.
Charlie Goree, 6’3, G/F, 2021, Wichita Collegiate
Goree has a nice frame and a lot of tools to work with. He stays active on the floor, moving without the ball and bringing strength and aggression to the paint. He’s a fluid player and can handle the ball some and score from distance. A player that can be put in several situations and do well.
Liam Smith, 6’4, F, 2021, Kapaun Mt Carmel
Smith is a good forward who can handle the ball, direct traffic and make excellent passes to teammates cutting to the basket. He’s very knowledgeable and pushes the tempo whenever he has the ball and encourages his teammates to do so as well. He can play the wing some and handle the ball and stay out of defensive traps.
Colin Schreiber, 6’3, F, 2021, Salina South
He’s very good at attacking the basket and can elevate in transition and score with either hand near the basket. He runs well and has skill along the perimeter as he can beat his man with his dribble and shoot from distance. Also an underrated rebounder on the defensive end.
Drew Nicholson, 6’4, F, 2021, Holsington
A nice swing player with alene, rangy frame and long arms that help him blocked shots and tip passes. he has a lot of upside as he can shoot from several feet beyond the three-point line and put the ball in the floor and get to the basket and score through traffic. A guy opponents have to keep their eyes on during the transition game.
Nicholas Hogan, 6’4, F, 2021, Eisenhower
An inside-out forward, Hogan can post up well in the paint and score using a variety of one-handed shots. He has good head fakes and hesitation moves, and shows good footwork as well. he’s also comfortable stepping outside and knocking down perimeter shots from several feet beyond the three-point arc.
