The NBPA does a great job year after year getting some of the top talent from the United States and a few international guys in the gym together for a week to play games in front of national scouts, NBA scouts and for the first time ever, college coaches. Below are five guys that stood out to me.
2021 6’4 Devin Askew
Askew has really taken off on a nation scene this summer and he continued to make noise in Charlottesville finishing with 19 points with 15 coming from behind the three-point line in my first viewing of him on Saturday morning. He was by far one of the better scorers I saw during camp and proved that he is one of the top scoring options in the 2021 class.
2020 6’10 Elijah Hutchins-Everett
Everett did not have a total eye popping game early Saturday morning from a stat book point of view but when he did something nice he really stood out. Everett is a big body standing at 6’10 with 235 pounds on him and that is what helps him become so dominant in the paint. He was rebounding with guys all around him and scoring with bodies all over him. Whoever lands Everett is getting somebody that can become an immediate post presence at the next level.
2020 6’1 Andre Curbelo
Andre is another guy that did not blow people away this morning from a stat book point of view but was a guy that was very efficient finishing with 10 points on 4/7 from the field including 2 for 3 from three. He also showed that he can help get his teammates involved dishing out 4 assists.
2021 6’9 Paolo Banchero
In my first viewing of Banchero he scored a game high 28 points and numbers like this became the norm for him during the rest of camp as he ended up finishing with MVP honors for the whole entire. I will be going into more detail of him in my 2nd part of standouts just because he was that good. In this game however, he showed he has the ability to be productive from the free throw where he was 10/11 from the field.
2020 6’9 Day’Ron Sharpe
I first saw Sharpe a little over a year ago on the 16 and under Adidas Gauntlet circuit where he was a beast in the post. During that time he had no high major offers but right after that game he received his first high major offer and now he is a top 40 recruit who is headed to the University of North Carolina. On Friday when I watched him he showed why he is one of the best big men in the country going 10/11 from the field finishing with a final tally of 20 points.
