SPRINGFIELD — Missouri State University hosted its annual high school boys’ basketball team camp featuring four AAU teams (Yanders Law, Carroll, Marcus Denmon Elite and MBA) as well as Blue Valley Northwesst (Kan.), Confluence Prep and area teams Aurora, Glendale, Kickapoo, Lebanon, Parkview and Rogersville.
Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at several Missouri prospects who stood out at the event.
Anton Brookshire, 6’1, G, 2021, Kickapoo (Yanders Law)
PICTURED: Brookshire enters the upcoming season as one of the state’s premier players and showed off his all-around game on Thursday at Missouri State. On Thursday, Brookshire showed the ability to take the ball strong to the basket and finish over larger defenders. He handle the ball on a strong, gets to the basket well and is a knock down outside shooter, able to shoot off the catch or the bounce. He has drawn several offers and has put together another strong offseason running with Yanders Law.
Maricus Grant, 6’1, 2020, Battle (Carroll)
Grant is an excellent player who brings strength and physicality to the point guard position. He has wide shoulders and is great at defending the ball and taking advantage of his speed. He has a good outside shot and can fight his way to the basket and finish with either hand near the rim.
Jace Lance, 6’1, G, 2020, Marshall (Team Carroll)
An excellent 3-point shooter who can light things up from deep. He moves well off the ball and comes off screens looking to catch and shoot. He can brings the ball up the floor and plays hard whenever he’s on the floor. Guy can find his rhythm at any point during the game.
Alex Martini, 6’8, PF/C, 2020, Carthage (Yanders Law)
Also a football standout who has drawn multiple offers in that sport, Martini has shined playing for Yanders Law this offseason and had some big moments on Thursday, finishing chances around the rim with two-handed slams, blocking shots and running the floor. He continues to improve as an outside shooter and shows good form and rotation from distance.
Ben Palacios, 6’5, 2020, Saint Michaels (Marcus Denmon)
A shooter from the wing who also makes extra passes and crashes the boards. He has good size and a thin frame and gets inside and shoots a clean jump shot. He is a good player off the ball and gets up in a hurry and plays strong defense on the opposing team’s best player. A nice player who shows great defensive effort on the floor.
Quenton Shelton, 6’2, G, 2020, Lebanon (Carroll)
Shelton helped Lebanon hang tough against power Blue Valley Northwest as the two teams were tied in Thursday’s night cap at the half before the Huskies pulled away for a 20-plus point win. Known for his outside shooting, Shelton has good size and strength and has shown the ability to take the ball to the basket and finish tough chances. He works hard off the ball in Billy Brown’s offense, screening, cutting and making himself available. Shelton recently drew his first offer from NCAA Division II program Quincy.
