SPRINGFIELD — Missouri State University hosted its annual high school boys’ basketball team camp featuring four AAU teams (Yanders Law, Carroll, Marcus Denmon Elite and MBA) as well as Blue Valley Northwesst (Kan.), Confluence Prep and area teams Aurora, Glendale, Kickapoo, Lebanon, Parkview and Rogersville.
Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at several Missouri prospects who stood out at the event.
11-Josh Butler, 6’5, 2020, Lee’s Summit West (Marcus Denmon)
Butler has speed, strength and agility. He fits well in a defensive zone scheme and is smart at crashing the glass and staying in the face of his opponents. He runs hard and is getting better at playing inside and using his size against taller players. He also has a great deal if upside and plays his best when he reacts to plays and doesn’t overthink them.
12-Tysen Brennan, 6’5, G/F, 2020, Lee’s Summit West (Marcus Denmon)
Brennan plays hard and is quick down the floor. He is good at getting around taller players outside of the paint as he uses size and speed to his advantage. He’s a smart forward and plays great defense in a zone. Brennan has a nice upside and shows relentless effort on both ends of the floor.
10-Tahki Chievous, Father Tolton (Team Carroll)
Chievous likes to attack off the dribble at an angle. He’s a slasher who breaks one way and can stop on a dime for a smooth jumper. He can find his way around the court and is good at passing out and getting his wing 3-point shot off. A nice wing player with good height and speed.
6-Cachao Gianquinto, G/F, 2021, Battle (Marcus Denmon)
A crafty player who has good ideas and can get on the board as a scorer. He runs well and plays loose and quick. He has good size and earns his time. He’s a pest of a defender and drives well and can absorb contact and get his floaters off in the lane.
20-Anthony Holden, 6’3, G, 2020, Saint Michaels (Marcus Denmon)
A lengthy wing player who is long and has good body control. He is a flexible wing/guard who looks to catch and shoot and make passes to the corner 3 spot. He has great height and a nice, long wingspan. He is a confident shooter and can switch off and defend some on the block as well as on the perimeter.
1-Brennan Watkins, 5’9, G, 2021, Kearney (Marcus Denmon)
A highly active player who has spin and fire to his game. He has smart handles and combines impressive vision for his age. He is very quick as well and is great at getting to the basket. He is also a standout defender at the guard position and has quick hands and a lot of fight to his game. A crowd favorite who brings a ton of energy to the floor.
