Missouri Team 1
Terrell Kabala 6’1″ Webb City (Victory Ministry): The thick bodied 2020 point guard is a three-level scoring threat, but he did a nice job of playing the facilitator role during the two games I watched on Sunday. He threw several nice lead passes to running teammates for easy buckets and shared the ball throughout the day. He is a physical guard who can bully his way to the basket, but also stop and knock down perimeter jumpers off the dribble. He’s a top football prospect, but he wants to play basketball at the next level.
Ethan Kilgore 6’6″ East Buchanan (KC Run GMC): The 2020 forward was able to showcase his overall versatility at the showcase. He made several nice plays off the dribble where he could get to the basket or drop dimes to cutting teammates. He makes solid decisions with the ball. He has some bounce as he displayed it with a few slam dunks plus he can step out and knock down 3-pointers off the catch.
Kaimen Lennox 6’3″ Truman (Team KC): The 2020 combo guard was an impressive offensive player during the day with a variety of buckets from all spots on the floor. He attacked the basket well with smooth drives and pulls from the mid-range area. He also scored on some nice cuts off the ball. He has good size, which enabled him to finish well in the lane. If the defender backs up on him, he will knock down the perimeter jumper to keep them honest.
Eric Northweather 6’8″ Blair Oaks (Mid-Mo Elite): The 2020 forward was very productive on Sunday as he did so many things well. He scored well in the paint with a variety of nice low post moves and he also displayed some nice passing skills to open cutters. He was very mobile as he got buckets on some impressive rim-runs. He has a good touch around the basket and his motor was running on high.
Ben Palacios 6’4″ St. Michael’s (Marcus Denmon Elite): The 2020 guard is a versatile performer who can play well with the ball or without the ball. I thought he was the best player at the camp at playing without the ball, which was good in a showcase setting where shoot-first, ask questions later can sometimes rule the day. He was always in the the open spots and he owned the Corner 3-pointers on Sunday. He is also a good ball handler and passer. After the weekend, he picked up an offer from Truman State.
Steve Strong 6’0″ University Academy (MoKan Elite) The 2021 point guard had an excellent spring with his MoKan 16U team and he continued that strong play on Sunday. Like his last name, he is strong off the dribble and he was very good at getting downhill and attacking the basket. He was excellent on the stop and pop jumper in the lane, which he made with a lot of consistency.
Sam Thompson 6’9″ Francis Howell (Larry Hughes Basketball Association): The 2021 power forward was one of the top bigs at the showcase as he continues to develop other elements to his game. He started off the first game by throwing down a power dunk off a nice cut, then blocked a lot on the next defensive possession. He showed nice moves in the post and his shooting touch plus his passing skills. He also continues to show off his range from 3-point range, which makes him even tougher to defend. Don’t sleep on his ability to drive it from the high post as well.
