Top Five Performers
Clifford Brown of Minneapolis North. I think this was a big weekend for Clifford “CJ” Brown. He’s played a nice role for Minneapolis North and Grassroots Sizzle 16s, both teams that have had success. But this weekend was the first time I’ve been able to get an extensive look at Brown with the ball in his hands and I was really impressed. Brown shot 36 percent from the arc this winter and in the full game I watched him play (in addition to pieces of others) Clifford hit three treys, attacked to score, and created a few shots for others. Looking forward to watching him more in situations where he goes from a wing shooting 5-6 shots a game, to more of a playmaker taking 11-12 attempts a contest.
Trey Longstreet of Delano. Trey continues to check all of the boxes as a versatile player. This weekend he went and played four different spots for his MBCA team guarding three different spots, then he played PG and near triple double producer for Delano in the Sunday Breakdown event leading them to the event title game. He’s that guy a coach can look to for so many different roles and at about 6-foot-5/6-foot-6 Trey plays all of those roles extremely well. When it comes to Points/Boards/Assists/Defense this winter I’m not sure many players in Minnesota will be able to match what Trey does for Delano.
Matthew Mors of Yankton (SD). With a massive amount of college coaches looking on Matthew Mors took on the challenge of guarding Dawson Garcia and did a far better job of the assignment than anybody expected. Mors used a combination of power, body control, and skill to produce numbers against some of the better frontcourt players in the state of Minnesota while giving up a year of experience. The feel for the game and knowledge of position that Mors have set him apart.
Josh Streit of Eden Valley Watkins. Josh had a solid weekend with his team but he finished with a bang. At 6-foot-7 Streit is the constant team guy. He will do whatever is asked of him without taking a bad shot or risking a possession. But on Saturday evening Streit hit five straight three-pointers and scored 19 points showing his range aggressively looking for his own offense much to the delight of his newly met teammates. Josh is a guy that teammates love to compete with and as a power forward he continues show high percentage range around the arc.
Will Tschetter of Stewartville. Will was the most dominant Minnesota 2021 at the event. His aggressive approach to everything: post defense, physical shoulder turns, box out hits, producing whenever in space, all of it opened up the eyes of a lot of coaches. We talked about how good Mors was in that game but Will went at Mors (and others) and didn’t miss a shot! Scored 13 plus had that 22 point aggressive opener on 10 of 18 shooting.

Five More
Andre Gray of Hopkins. Another weekend, another Andre Gray performance showing a step forward in production plus physical gifts that other Minnesota junior guard sized players don’t have.
Francis Nwaokorie of Champlin Park. His low post game is something to treasure. The way he uses his body to physically separate combined with soft hands and good feet, one of the most improved players in the last nine months.
Treyton Thompson of Alexandria. Thompson didn’t have the same weekend at MBCA that he had at Badger Team Camp and the Breakdown event, but the aggressiveness and double figure scoring production was still there. When Thompson gets more core strength and older players can’t knock him off balance the percentage of finishing is going to be in the 60s at an event like this.
Davon Townley of Minneapolis North. Davon impressed many with his physical moves to the rim and aggressive finishing. He took a lot of people aback with the quickness of the steps he took and quick bounce to the rim. Stands about 6-foot-5/6-foot-6 in the post, Townley’s development going forward is something to keep an eye on.
Jalen Treml of Hopkins. Jalen hit some of the more clutch shots of the weekend on Saturday bringing his team back with two deep jumper makes in the final minute. A combo guard that we’ve seen do more and more with opportunity.
