There is a loaded field with several of Kentucky’s best teams in the field. 40 varsity programs are coming to play at the KBC but only one will leave with the championship. Here’s a look at some of the top Seniors in the field. These are presented in no particular order.
Ray Surratt, Lafayette – One of the only true centers in the state, Ray is skilled and can shoot it a little. His lack of foot speed can be a problem but it will be interesting to see him match up against Trey James.
Ben Carroll, Greenwood – At 6’6, Carroll can play inside and out for the Gators. Ben is off the radar due to a lack of AAU exposure but will have a chance this weekend to show he can be among the top players in the 2020 class.
Tyshay Epps, Marion County – A lightning fast point guard, Epps should thrive in the system that new coach Maze Stallworth runs. The game against Tates Creek could be a track meet.
Justin Powell, North Oldham – The first member of the 2020 class to commit, Powell is headed to Auburn for college. In the meantime, he’s going to try to win the first ever Mack, Miller and Lofton event.
Marques Warrick, Henry Clay – Coming off a good two games with the Junior All Star games, Warrick is going to be relied on as the Senior leader for the Blue Devils this year. Hopefully he and Powell guard each other when they play.
Nick Keeton, Paintsville – One of the best rebounders in the state, Keeton is a walking double-double. It will be interesting to see how he matches up with some of the great athletes in the event.
Lincoln Bush, George Rogers Clark – After playing in the shadow of a Senior heavy team last year, Bush is going to have a chance to be a go to player for the Cardinals this year.
Rodrell Dryden, Dunbar – Dryden has had a huge spring AAU season but was really just a role player last high school season. It will be interesting to see if he establishes himself as a leader or goes back to being a complimentary piece.
Noah Courtney, Male – Noah gets the least press of the Male Senior Trio but may be the best prospect of the three. If he can shoot the ball consistently this weekend, he can showcase his potential as a wing and not an undersized post.
Tyren Moore, Male – One of the most entertaining players in the 2020 class, Moore is capable of scoring 30 points in about 10 minutes. Already holding 2 D2 offers, he should be one of the best scorers at the event.
Taylor Spurlock, Harlan County – Taylor is extremely long and can shoot the ball. His frail frame keeps him from finishing well through contact but he’s very skilled.
Nathan Mack, Frederick Douglass – Mack plays with a great motor and should have a chance to impress this weekend with a Douglass team that should be better after being very young the last two years.
Terrin Hamilton, Scott County – Having a big summer after spending his first 3 seasons in the shadow of Michael Moreno, Hamilton is going to be the leader for a relatively inexperienced Cardinal team.
Ashton Myles-Devore, Woodford County – Potentially one of the breakout players in the 8th region this year, Myles-Devore can shoot the ball and has a bit of swagger to his game.
Michael McKenzie, Great Crossing – One of a surprisingly large group of Seniors at Great Crossing in their first year of existence, McKenzie can shoot it and gets the majority of the shots for the Warhawks.
Colton Fraley, Pulaski County – Fraley came back off of a shoulder injury to have a solid Junior season and will hope to lead Pulaski to the State Tournament next season.
James Lindsay, Bryan Station – After a quiet but effective Junior season, Lindsay is going to be the man this year for the Defenders this season. Pound for pound, Lindsay could be the best athlete in Kentucky basketball.
Amirion Joyce, Bourbon County – One of the big stock boosters of the spring AAU season, Joyce is a good athlete who can beat his man off the dribble but has to improve his shot making to reach the D1 level in college.
