Continue ReadingThe high school season, you see players gradually grow each year. It could be because of team needs, or they’re breaking out of their shell into a better player.
This winter, that will be the story once again. We will see some players improve on their game tremendously, in different ways.
Hoopers:
• Conner Maciag (6’2” / CG 2020 / Pickerington Central): This spring, and a time this June I was able to watch the senior Tiger play, and improve. Due to the loss of production to graduation, Pick Central is going to rely on some other faces. Maciag has a growing ability to score the ball from multiple levels, as well as play tough on-ball. With the ability to handle the ball, or play off, look for Maciag to get plenty of opportunity in an expanded role this winter.
• Dan Lee (6’2” / G 2020 / Dublin Scioto): Lee is a capable scorer from all around. A high-IQ player on the hardwood, Lee plays a brand of winning basketball. Not to mention his abobe 4.0 GPA! Last season Dublin had a well rounded team, scoring wise. With the ability I’ve seen from Lee to shoot it, and his ability to get open, I think Lee could fill it up more often then not next season. The Celtic should have a good go around this coming winter.
• Mitch Myers (6’3” / WF 2020 / Marion Harding): Mitch Myers was the best player on a below average Harding team last year, that I think will improve this year. Myers thrives in a spot up shooting role, and can work in the post at times. The multi-sport athlete can take his game to the next level if he develops more of a off-the-bounce game. A solid rebounder as well. For the Presidents to improve this winter, Myers is one of a few candidates that could take there game up a notch possibly.
• Ethan Bell (5’9” / PG 2021 / River Valley):Ethan Bell was one of the better sophomores in the MOAC last season. Able to operate the offense well, and picks up assists at a high clip. Good court vision, and gets to his spots. Capable shooter, that will potentially take the next step. This spring, Ethan showed he’s gotten tougher. With the graduation of AJ Kenney, the Vikings will desperately need to fill a scoring role. With the ability to create space, and shoot it from deep I don’t see that being a problem for the junior.
• Keaton Turner (6’0” / G 2020 / Dublin Coffman): Last season, without a doubt Coffman was one of the best offensive teams in the state. Turner played a vital role in that, off the bench scoring threat. With the departure of multiple key losses, Turner will be stepping into an expanded role that he could thrive in. Turner has the ability to get to the rim with a advanced first step. Multiple dribble combos to create space, on the pull up as well. Turner plays hard, racks up steals and hustle rebounds at times too. Sharing backcourt duties with Dominiq Penn, Coffman will have one of the better back courts in the area.
