For the next week, I will combine my coverage of all three team camps, starting with the top teams that I watched during the weekend.
Chaminade: The Red Devils looked strong at SIUE with its blend of size, experienced wing players and young up and coming standouts, starting with 6’5″ 2020 guard Luke Kasubke shooting the ball and 6’5″ 2020 guard Harrison Vickers, who can play multiple positions and get buckets. Providing the size is solid 6’8″ 2020 forward Frazier Ott and a future standout in 6’8″ 2022 forward Tarris Reed, Jr., who has an excellent power game. A couple of young wing players who showed well were 6’3″ 2022 guard Jaden Winfield and 6’2″ 2023 guard Damien Mayo.
Mehlville: The Panthers looked good in winning three games on Friday at Lindenwood, including a win over East St. Louis. They were led by 6’5″ 2020 guard Dylan Branson, who displayed his all-around game and 7’0″ 2020 center Davion Bradford who had some impressive power dunks in the paint. 6’7″ 2020 forward Lamontay Daugherty was very good on the offensive boards while 6’2″ 2020 guard King Waller played good defense and made open shots. The addition of 2020 point guard Kyle Geraghty gives the Panthers another reliable ball handler and passer.
East St. Louis (IL): The Flyers continued their impressive June over at Lindenwood, proving that they will again be a factor next season. I was most impressed with 5’10” 2020 point guard Jashawn Anderson, who is impossible to keep out of the lane with his quickness. He is joined on the perimeter by 6’3″ 2020 shooter Brian Calhoun and 5’10” 2020 guard Jabril Olivaria. There is plenty of size and talent of up front with slender 6’8″ 2020 forward Armond Williams, who can run, shoot and block shots; and 6’7″ 2020 forward Patrick Readye, a big body with good post moves and a nice shooting touch.
Cardinal Ritter: For the second consecutive week, the Lions won all of their games, this weekend at John Burroughs. The play of 6’7″ 2020 forward Gary Clark continues to impress as he was one of the top perimeter shooters in the event. 6’3″ 2021 guard Mario Fleming got buckets in the paint and on the drive while 6’6″ 2020 forward Brandon Ellington was solid in the paint. 6’0″ 2020 point guard Glenn Valentine was solid on both ends of the court.
Hazelwood Central: The Hawks had enough talent to field two very competitive varsity teams at the MCC event at John Burroughs. They figure to be one of the top teams in Class 5 next season with talented 2020 wings in 6’5″ Nate Garrett and 6’1″ energizer bunny David Roberts. 5’6″ 2022 point guard Tevin Gowins is an excellent young floor general who can really lead a team while 6’2″ 2021 wing Aahmod Scarbrough is a slasher who excels in a up-tempo setting. 6’6″ 2021 forward Johnathan Dunn and 6’3″ 2021 Caleb Jones are athletic forwards while 6’3″ 2021 Cole Farrell is a talented wing.
Collinsville (IL): The Kahoks were impressive in the game I watched at SIUE and will be one of the top teams on the metro east side in St. Louis. They have one of the area’s best in 6’1″ 2020 point guard Ray’Sean Taylor, who can score and facilitate. His backcourt partner, 5’9″ 2020 Cowhan Smith was a bucket-getter in the game I watched against Lutheran North. There is power in the paint in beefy 6’6″ 2020 forward Aaron Molton. Fellow 6’6″ 2020 forward Keydrian Jones is another quality big who did not play in the morning session.
O’Fallon (IL): The Panthers had a very productive day at Lindenwood. They have a nice group of guards that surround 6’7″ 2021 forward Shawn Riley, who is mobile and skilled around the basket. The guard corps is led by talented 6’1″ 2022 point guard Caleb Burton, 5’11” 2021 Chris Porter, who can really shoot it, and 6’0″ 2020 Amarey Willis.
McCluer: The Comets played well at John Burroughs as they showcased its collective length as a team. 6’2″ 2020 point guard Jeremiah Jackson was impressive off the bounce while 6’6″ 2020 Devon Barshow is long and very skilled. A couple of more talented kids on the rise at 6’5″ 2020 forward Cam Hubbard, who is back after an injury, and 6’4″ 2021 wing Anias Futrell-Yahwah.
