But in the month of June, players in the 2020 class have been putting in the work so college coaches can get an early look at them before next month.
I talked to four talented players in the next year’s class to see what they have been up to since the first NCAA live period. By what they told me, things have been going really well.
2020 PG Joe Cooper (Nike Elite Stars 17U): The 6-foot point guard took an official visit to Middle Tennessee State on Wednesday, stating the visit went well. The Blue Raiders didn’t offer Cooper, but the coaching staff is impressed with the type of guard he is.
“They just told me their plans for me, their plans for the program, and how I was their kind of guy,” Cooper said via Twitter. “I’m going to come back in the fall for another visit, and they’re going to be at all of my games in July.”
2020 PG Jacobi Wood (Cleveland/WHBH 17U): The 6-2 point guard picked up an offer from Belmont on Wednesday. Before the offer, he attended the team’s camp, along with a team camp at Jacksonville State. Wood mentioned he had a mini visit with the Bruins and has plans on taking official visits to both programs.
“We don’t have official dates yet, but the camp experiences went really well,” Wood said. “I loved both of the places. Both feel like a good winning environment and both staffs are really interactive and kept it real with me. I really like both schools.”
2020 PG Nick Floyd (Lausanne/Alabama Celtics 17U): Floyd is one of the shortest guards in his class at 5-8, but he has upper body strength and has a high basketball IQ. Floyd attended the Rhodes College Elite Camp earlier this week and gave his honest opinion on how well he performed.
“It was good. I didn’t feel like there was anyone that could hold me,” Floyd said. “I got to the rim and was able to get all my shots with ease.”
Floyd impressed the coaching staff of the Lynx so much that they plan on evaluating him at MUS and BCAT during the second NCAA live period.
2020 PG Koby Jeffries (The Skill Factory/Hoop City 17U): The 6-3 point guard just picked up his first offer from Fresno State on Wednesday. I texted him right after the news to get his thoughts about a Division 1 program recruiting him.
“It feels great,” Jeffries said. “The hard work is paying off.”
Georgia Tech and Kennesaw State are also coming strong after Jeffries. At the moment, he doesn’t have any visits setup with these schools.
