Drenin Dinkins 5’9″ South Iron (’22): The young point guard is a bucket from all three levels and he displayed his offensive talent in a game against host Hillsboro. He has deep shooting range and he can get it off the dribble or off the catch. He did a nice job of putting it on the floor and getting to the basket and he can do it going left or right.
Sonny Amabile 5’7″ Windsor (’21): A small pass-first point guard who can really distribute the ball and knock down jumpers when it is time to score. He is quick and can play the angles well to get into the lane to compromise the defense for floaters of dimes to open teammates. He operates the pick and roll well as a passer and scoring threat.
Brant Gray 6’3″ Farmington (’21): A solid shooting guard who I watched make six 3-pointers in the championship game of the Park Hills Central Tournament back in December. He still has that deep shooting range, but he is now also starting to create offense off the dribble to compliment that shooting.
Isaiah Robinson 6’5″ Farmington (’22): A long and lean wing player who has excellent perimeter skills and a big up-side. He gets to the basket well and really stretches out with a nice finger roll. His pull up jumper is solid to go along with his handles. As he gains physical strength, he will become even more of a problem for defensive players.
Zach Whaley 6’3″ Hillsboro (’21): The solid shooting guard has a high basketball IQ and a confident stroke from 3-point range. He hit several early 3-pointers to get the Hawks going in their victory over South Iron. He got out in transition and ran to the open spot and knocked shots down. He has good length and pretty good athleticism.
D.J. Prater 6’0″ South Iron (’22): A long and lean lefty who has good dribble-drive moves to get into the lane to score on layups and short jumpers. He has good bounce and a high-arching 3-point shot that is very accurate. He has all the makings of being an exciting young playmaker on the wing.
Damarion Anderson 6’3″ Festus (’22): A very physical young forward who did a good job playing bully-ball to get to the rim and convert buckets. He is a hard working kid who rebounds well and plays with a high motor. He is still just getting started in his development, but I liked his hustle and work rate.
